A Bridge Named Susan
Susan was an interruption in life. In 1910, a farm needed boys. Her doting fathers attention brought jealousy and resentment from her mother and older brother. The struggle to win her mamas love drove Susan to work hard and be a good girl. At the age of eighteen, Susan married Tom and faced a new set of difficult relationships and hard times. Faced with the Great Depression, Tom accepted the challenge of clearing fifteen acres of lodgepole pine in exchange for a free place to live. Through a subzero winter in a tent; the silent wall treatment of her husband; an abusive, threatening father-in-law; and acute poverty, Susan built her life into a strong bridge of faith. She longed for her bridge to span to the next generation. The greatest problem? Even after twelve years of marriage, there was no one in the next generation.

Having known the author for many years I have come to not be surprised by her many talents - and now writing a novel is among them.
This captivating tale about a young woman growing up in very rural north/central Idaho reminded me often with Little House on the Prairie with the descriptors of the area, the tasks to be completed and the hazards faced by the members of the family.
What sets it apart is the focus of the young lady in the novel, her trials and the manor which she faces and deals with them.
A worthy effort from Ms Hoseley and we will be looking forward to more - that is if she can pull time away from working with children and others in her community. I know she will for she is just that kind of gal!

Wow! I really don’t know what to say about such a wonderful book! A Bridge Named Susan is about the life of the author’s mother, who was named Susan.
Susan started out life with things against her, namely her own mother. She was a girl. They had a farm and farms needed boys, not girls, at least in Minnie’s opinion. Susan’s daddy, John, loved his little girl very much.
This book takes us from Susan’s early childhood through adulthood. Along the way, she faced many challenges and much heartache. There were some extremely tense and terrifying moments that got my heart racing as I read them.
Susan found strength in faith in our Heavenly Father and daily turned the struggles of her life over to Him. Things happened along the way to make her question her faith and if He had forsaken her, but in the end, her faith was rewarded.
A Bridge Named Susan earns all five stars. It was a book that was hard to put down. I had to see how it ended!

I enjoyed this book so much. A wonderful story was told and I could just picture the countryside and the trials Susan and the others faced just to survive day to day living. My grandparents were both raised on farms in that generation and it brought back stories they told me. Sharon is a wonderful storyteller and I loved this book.
