This book is a charming rhyming story about friendship told with a classic easy to read simplicity. The structured storyline builds with a good rhythmical pace. The sentence construction is at the right level for young children to follow and they will enjoy the anticipation of turning the page to see what happens next. The use of repetition in the rhyming words is used effectively to assist children with consolidating their vocabulary without being overtly didactic or reductive. The illustrations are very well crafted with nice attention to detail in attractive colours. The animal creatures depicted are very appealing. This is also a nice side theme in the story in the rejuvenation of Tilly’s hat by the friendly communal spruce up. This might inspire children to get creative with their own belongings and see that instead of throwing them out a little care and attention might breathe some new life into them.
