On a whim, I asked Facebook fans/friends if they would like to be in a book about a fictional poker tournament. The demand far exceeded my expectations, which led to me capping the number of characters at 100 (it ended up being 101 characters due to an error on my part). This book is 90% fiction, but there are some true stories within its pages. I researched every character in the book to the best of my ability and based that character's actions and dialogue on the research. If you play poker, then it's highly likely you know someone in this book. These characters include home gamers, bar leaguers, live casino regulars, online players, circuit pros, and high rollers. If this book is successful, I will turn this into a trilogy. If you want a shot at getting into one of the future installments, you can find more information at the end of the book. For now, Welcome to the Pink Piñata!

This is a great read, with lots of twists , and some good insight as to what most poker players are really thinking when they're at the tables, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it❣ I hadn't planned on reading it in one setting, I actually had something I needed to do, but once I got started reading I had to keep turning pages and before I knew what hit me I finished the book❣ It was definitely worth reading, and as a poker player myself, it actually made me stop and think about some moves other poker players have actually put on me.... Thank you for the lesson Tyler❣
This book really twists an turns like a dream! Very interesting an fun read! Fun take on the many different characters you might meet playing the game an telling of how everyone has a story! Really fun an great read!
Tyler Nals is the ultimate poker guy that I’d never heard of. Of course, although I love to play poker, I’m not in the same league and there’s no reason for me to read poker books. Nals writes about poker, how to play it, where to play it, and stories of those who do play it. In “A Fishy Poker Tournament” he grabs all his credentials, packs them into a story that is mostly about tournament poker along with some weird behavior by those who hang around the tables.
Tyler shows up at a tournament, greets a few people that he either knows or wants to get acquainted with, and then settles in for the long haul of trying to outwit his opponents. It’s a relatively short squat until he’s up, running around on various quests, missing the start of the next session, and then sitting to play again.
That’s the gist of the story. It’s an up and down tale of interrupted poker sessions interspersed with various personal stories of the participants and assorted fringe players. How he made it to the final table is vague, because I never saw him win very much.
I suspect I need to read more Tyler Nals if I’m ever going to understand his message. For now I’ll just say that I enjoyed the poker hands as explained by the author and the stories and adventures he shared with me. Did I get the point of his book? No, I didn’t but I was entertained.
I have enjoyed all of tyler’s books thus far and been getting a good poker education at the same time. This is a fun read that seems headed for a bad ending, but the river can change everything.
Tyler has endeavoured to gel together a large amount of detailed character's in this novel. If I'm honest I got a little lost in the story line but the apart I still enjoyed the book.
The book was strange towards the middle but I liked the flow and dialogue throughout! As always, I was intrigued early on and captivated by the story. A great read, Tyler!
I found Tyler's work to be very genuine. He based the characters in "Fishy" on real profiles and he seemed to nail every single character I recognized. He spent months getting to know everyone and really made the suspense as close to reality as it could possibly come. I will be reading all of Tyler's books.
