I understand that this is a children's book, meant to be a supplemental textbook-style addition to our school texts that don't address this topic at all or nearly enough. However, it felt extremely neutral and unbiased to the point of being purposeless. Comment such as 'critics of stop and frisk believe it was targeting people of color unfairly' and 'some believe Eric Garner's race was a factor in his death' really belittles the reality of people of color's lived experiences. Maybe this would be okay for a white kid who is completely unaware of this topic but I'm not sure if it's doing more help or harm honestly.
