I enjoyed this when I first read it in 1985 so I was pleased to be able to buy a second-hand copy so I could read it again. It is a good story, written with wit and humour, and I like the character of the flawed Detective Inspector Alf Rosher. However the author comes across as a homophobe and there is stuff in here which detracts from the story and probably accounts for this series being out of print.
