Jayne Reeves lived a quiet, normal, middle-class life as a stay-at-home soccer mom. Her biggest decision of the day was usually what to make for dinner.
Then it happened. The ground quaked, as fireballs plummeted from the sky and slammed into homes, cars and buildings around her. Was it a meteor...or something much more sinister? War? Aliens? Whatever it was would change her life forever.
All communication was out. No television. No radio. no telephones or cell phones. Jayne had no way to contact her husband and son. She and her daughter were alone.
In order for her family to survive, Jayne would need to dig deep and rely on an inner strength that she never knew she had, to deal with the unknown terror to come.
I have this a four star rating because it was a good book, but the style of the prose was rather basic. It didn't draw me in at first and at about forty pages in I thought about quitting, but I pushed forward hoping that the plot would save the book. That it did. The plot presented interesting ideas and once it picked up it rolled on in an interesting way. It definitely fits into the science fiction genre. The book also has the underlying themes of community, survival, and maternal nature. The issues dealt with in the book were done so in a logical manner, there was no unrealistic twist, which interested me. I found that I could relate to the protagonists and I could see myself making the same decision they did. Overall, it is a good book and if you're looking for something with an enticing plot, I would pick it up. However, if you obsess over eloquently constructed prose, this may not be for you.
Nice book from a first time author. An alien invasion story with a twist (won't say what). It is intended for adults but the style almost comes across as more Young Adult. Still, a fun read even if dark. Reminds me a bit of the TV series "Falling Sky" in that humanity is severely outgunned but keeps fighting on. It is set up for a sequel and if it gets published I would read it.
I WANT MORE. First off, I have to say that I never ever read science fiction. I don't watch the movies. I hate science fiction.
I won this book on Goodreads. I think I initially entered to win a copy for my niece, but when I thumbed through the pages, a couple of things got me interested so I dove in.
This story is so good. Not too many things to make it confusing or string it out. Just what's going to happen next?
I can definitely see a sequel to this book. I NEED to find out what happens to Jayne, her family, and the group.
