Throughout a long history of paranormal occurrences, one hellish creature has continued to rear its head, leaving death and misery in its wake. Its motives are unknown, but its method seems clear: kill — destroy — repeat.

After being delivered from sexual assault by unseen forces, twenty-three-year-old widow Olivia Cambridge is contacted by Seventh Circle: a mediocre organization of ghost hunters who insist that she has become the latest target of an ancient evil that has plagued humanity for millennia.

At first, she doesn't believe. But proof takes a hellish form.

With the help of a powerful Seventh Circle employee, Olivia manages to stay one step ahead of the Beast — and ahead of a government whose prime objective is to keep everyone in the dark. But she soon finds that she can't run forever, and that the legacy of EROGRENDEL is more a part of her identity than she could ever have guessed.

*SPOILER ALERT!*

I'm going to try to be as vague as possible, but just in case I say something that somebody ELSE would consider a "spoiler", you've been warned.

Due to my schedule getting rearranged at the last minute, I found myself with the free time to sit down and read Erogrendel. I'm glad I had the unexpected free time, because once I got started, I definitely did NOT want to put it down. I found myself wishing the action would go a little faster, but it's always nice when I don't find myself on either end of the spectrum, where I'm either left in the dust when a book runs off with the plot OR when it gets bogged down on details and subsequently moves at a snail's pace. This was a nice mix of well-fleshed out imagery, allowing for the creation of "what it looks like in my head", while keeping me on the edge of my seat with wanting to know what's gonna happen next.

The characters were well-written as well, helping to build my internal vision. There were a couple characters that I was slightly disappointed by, simply because in my opinion, for as fleshed-out as they were, they didn't really seem to have that much impact on the plot as a whole. Given the circumstances leading to this edition of the writing, however, I'm just going with "Their backstory/motivation/etc. probably used to have more impact on a scene that doesn't go the way it used to anymore."

Onto my potentially spoiler-y opinion: One of my favorite things about this book was that it's stated in conversation how Erogrendel is a "paranormal being", and not precisely a monster. And by the end of the book, there are at LEAST half a dozen characters who could be considered "monstrous", depending on your definitions.

All in all, it was a great read, and one I definitely recommend.
