Textbook of Medical Physiology

Preface When I embarked on this project, my sole intention was to bring out a book that an average first year MDBS student can easily and completely comprehend. In order to attain this goal, the book has simple language, easy-to-reproduce sketches and well-demarcated sections. To the best of my knowledge, this book covers every topic in physiology from both examination and clinical point of view. Although both the publisher and I have taken utmost care to eliminate mistakes and outdated procedures, some inevitably occur in the first edition. I shall be indebted to those who notify me of such mistakes in both text and diagrams. In this context, portions requiring further explanation may please be brought to my notice. I would like to express my gratitude to all those helping hands and caring minds who stood with me in fair and foul weather alike. All my teachers are responsible for moulding me and in this context I would like to make a special mention of my mentor and well-wisher Dr Glorine Gnanathankom who ignited my passion in Physiology and stood with me throughout my journey in life. I also extend my gratitude and love to Dr Rupa for her valuable time and patience in helping me in this work, to my son for his immense help when technology failed me, and to my family whose support is valuable indeed. The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. (Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening-Robert Frost)
