Sky was your typical Grim Reaper, well mostly, she was half human too. She helped souls pass on to the afterlife, but she didn't expect a human to see her in the act, harvesting a soul. In shock, Sky attempts to return to her normal life as the owner of the local bookstore in the small town of Ouray. Jack seeks out the strange yet beautiful woman he saw take his friend's soul on the mountain. After searching nearly every business in the small town, he stumbles upon her in a bookstore on Main Street. Part of him tells him to run the other way. The other part is intrigued by her beautiful features and sporadic personality. Sky had hoped Jack would chump it up to the heat of the moment and his wild imagination. But he seems to think otherwise. Will she be able to convince him he was seeing things or risk revealing her true self to him? As their worlds collide and passion unfold will they be able to fight what's coming for them? What would you do to save the one you love?
I'm a Native Texan, born and raised close to the heart of the state. Also I'm a part-time working mother/housewife, as well as a Lupus Warrior. Thanks to the encouragement of friends and family, I found a passion in writing paranormal romance books. Anything fantasy usually suits me and my novels tend to be able to reach anyone in multiple genres. I like to explore to new types of characters such as Sandmen and Boogeymen for example. I really wanted to give them their own world. Such as A Sandman’s Forbidden Love. “This book plagued my dreams every night till I got it all out.” Now Angels are also a part of my obsession, I will sit on the computer doing extensive research on both Sandmen and Angels trying to get my facts straight. Then, I also create Art Journals that can be cross generational from thirteen to sixty years younger, My goal with these types of books are to reach people who need that extra feel good in their lives.
I was pleasantly taken with this book. It reads like a twisted fairy tale with elements of sci-fi and paranormal. There's love, war, and a world of Grimms adventures in between. I loved Sky and Jack, as well as the other characters in the book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
A nicely original concept that I think would have worked even better as a full length novel. It was a bit too short, and lacked a lot of description, and we time jumped a lot, and it felt like there were big chunks of information missing. I didn’t feel as attached to the main characters as I think I could have been. With that said, the story is worth a read, and the storyline really held my interest at the halfway point. There was some editing issues that were noticeable, but it didn’t overly distract from the story. I liked the story and the concept of angels and reapers, just would have liked to see the story fleshed out a bit more. Reviewed by Cyrene
I was not sure what to expect from this story as I went in "blind". I knew the title and nothing more. GRIMM LOVE is a quick, fast paced read that is a little different than the normal "grim reaper" books I have read in the past.
The story is told in past and present and moves along very quickly in years. At the heart of the story, it's about family of choice, deep friendships and unconditional love.
I recommend this story and look forward to reading the next installment in the anthology.
I must admit I've never read a book about reaping souls before, but I've got to say I really enjoyed this one. Kristen Collins gives her characters spunk, a unique voice and pairs them with unique gifts to make this story one you'll remember. Just when you think you know what is going to happen next, you turn the page and the story changes dramatically, but for the better. I love the cover and the title is very fitting. Well done Kristen, I look forward to reading more novels from you.
This was a fun little short story. It had the dynamics of mythical creatures that I enjoyed from the first book of hers I read "A Sandman's Forbidden Love." In this case, it was the Reapers, Angels, and Demons. They had a dramatic backstory likened to the Sandman's dramatic background, which resulted in their forbidden romance. And the rest, as we would suspect, is history.
Sky was born from the forbidden coupling of a reaper and human. She was born stronger than any other Reaper in existence, but she might not be the only one of her kind...
Jack is an Ex-Military Sniper who earned the nickname "Reaper" for his close ties to death, both at his hands and—ironically—his family life. Little did he know how literal that name truly was for creatures sharing his world.
Sky and Jack share a similar sad history, both having lost their parents. And they always felt alone in the world. But now fate has brought them together and given them a second chance at a real family. However, The Grimm is determined to see them separated. But what are his real motives for doing so? What does he stand to gain? All this and more in this short installment of the Hybrid Love anthology.
My biggest pet peeve for this book was the rapid pacing of the storyline, along with the grammatical issues dispersed throughout the story. It didn't take away from my enjoyment of it, but it left me longing for MORE. It was difficult to follow the timeline of the story, seeming to jump from past to present in the beginning. And Sky and Jack's love story seemed to also blur with regards to time of year: number of days, weeks, months, etc. I just didn't know. I really would have liked to see a true build up to the romance we all knew was coming. Good things take time.
In all, I enjoyed this little story. It was an easy and quick read, and it kept your attention the whole time. I would recommend it to those who enjoy romance and a bit of action, as well as those who have an interest in a bit of historical retellings (this from a religious aspect).
Okay, so, I’m pretty sure you can tell that this is definitely paranormal romance. That is not, I’ll admit, always my most favorite genre to read. I do enjoy it, but it can easily be ruined, so it depends a lot on how the author handles it. That being said, I surprisingly really enjoyed this book. I don’t mean to say “surprisingly” as if I thought I would hate it. I didn’t. I just tend to have a little apprehension for this particular genre sometimes. However, this book was quite lovely. First, I must give it credit for putting a new and fresh spin on the paranormal romance genre. Our main girl is not a vampire, werewolf, or even a witch. She is a Grim Reaper. What?! Yes. This isn’t the first book I have seen with a Grim Reaper character, but I do believe it’s the first I’ve seen with this type of romance spin on it. Oh yeah, the romance. I really enjoyed Sky and Jack’s developing romance, and I thought their emotions were very palpable and believable. There may have been a bit of insta-love, which I do not love, but I try to be more forgiving when other elements of the book are worthy of applause. The other thing I believe was very well-done was the worldbuilding, so to speak, and the way the author blended Sky’s life as both a Grim Reaper and a human. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would, and I would definitely suggest checking it out if you get a chance. Pick up a copy right here! Would I recommend? Yes, I would! I think you’ll really enjoy, especially if you like paranormal romance even more than I do. Rating? Three Meows. Am I going to re-read? Probably not right away, but I will hold on to my copy and I made read it later on in the future. I have too much new stuff to read right now? Final thoughts: Check it out. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised and impressed by the author’s writing skill. I was sent a free copy of this book for review. All opinions are true and my own.
Completely enjoyed this book. There were a few times I had to reread something because conversation rolled over and changed within the same paragraph and I got confused as who was speaking to who. It didn’t happen often and the plot was excellent.
I enjoyed Grimm Love because it had a unique take on paranormal characters that pulled you into their world effortlessly. The author created a world that was well thought out and engaging. It had the right amount of action and love story that kept me turning the pages. And the ending, well I love it when an author completes a story where you're satisfied, yet I wouldn't mind a sequel! Looking forward to reading more from this author!
I really enjoyed Sky and Jack's story. Quick read with plenty of action. Can't wait to read more. I voluntarily reviewed a copy via Quirky Blind Date with a Book.
Grimm Love had so much heart. I really felt for the characters. You can total feel Sky and Jack's love for each other. It's a strange pull that keeps you reading more and more. I thoroughly enjoyed all the plot twists and the battle scene was epic. So glad I was lucky enough to read this one as an ARC. I feel like a lot of "ha ha's" should be said, but I'll pretend I'm mature. ;-)
This book sounded fantastic, I read the blurb and did a little happy dance.
The first couple of chapters were great in setting the tone and layering the story up. Then...BOOM... massive jumps in time line, the writing stopped being as good or as in depth. It became rushed. I'm not a fan of rushed. It's a massive bug bear of mine...and I was left quite frustrated.
This is a very short book about 80 some pages. Honestly I was very bored til about 55% in this story. Once the action kicked in it got much better but til that point I struggled alot. It had a HEA and no cheating
