Don Bishop has captured the West Somerset Railway line through all the seasons over some 15 plus years with a particular emphasis on 'steam in the landscape' photographs showing the railway going about its business with the wonderful varied landscape around it.
These 60 full colour photographs have been taken by Don Bishop in different seasons of the year showing a variety of different steam trains on the 23-mile line between Bishops Lydeard, near Taunton, and Minehead.
While all the trains are described using their specifications, eg 38xx 2-9-0 no 3850, which will appeal more to the railway enthusiasts, it is the charming scenery, particularly of the Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Bristol Channel (in the distance more often than not) through the summit of the line at Crowcombe Heathfield and continuing downhill through Stogumber (now there's a name) and Williton to the coast at Watchet.
The trains are many and varied and some appear to come out on loan or for an occasional outing to run the line, such as the Llangollen Railway based one and the sizes differ considerably between, for instance, the old fashioned little Black Terrier to the far more modern looking West Country Pacific. But they all provide Don Bishop with the opportunity to produce some very viewable photographs of the trains and the countryside.
