The clear, simple truths of the natural world provide lessons in virtuous living. In this anthology, selections from more than 80 of the world's finest writers--from Aldo Leopold to Rachel Carson, from Henry Beston to Kathleen Norris--illustrate the seven virtues of prudence, fortitude, temperance, justice, faith, hope, and charity as they are embodied in nature.
Very good insight found throughout the book. A tad on the religious side so if that bothers you then maybe stay away. Other than that it provides Valuable lessons and exercises on how to observe virtue in your own life.
Of Earth and Sky: Spiritual Lessons from Nature by Thomas Becknell

I have owned this book for many years and finally have gotten around to reading it. As an environmental science writer myself I was very excited to read it. I must say I was a bit surprised at how much Christian theology was included and secondarily at the anthropomorphism that seemed prevalent in many of the pieces. I had hoped for a bit more scientific approach but this book does promise a spiritual angle. But for me it was a missed mark because spirituality is more universal than only Christian theology. I was raised Christian and am familiar with those teachings but was hoping this book would be more inclusive of spiritual views from other cultures and belief systems.
