Rate this book
At the age of 20, Elizabeth is the youngest Donovan and the only girl in the family. She is beautiful and a talented free-spirit who is happiest when lost in the world of her art, painting. There are several local men who would love to marry her, as there is a serious shortage of women in Bozeman, MT in the 1890's. Elizabeth has seen her own brothers send for mail-order brides. Emma was the first young woman to move East from Boston to marry Ethan. Several of Emma's friends followed, Julia, Colleen, Brianna, Maeve and Fiona. But Elizabeth is in no hurry to marry either of the local men. No one has captured her heart in the same way that her childhood neighbor Julian did. Theirs was an innocent, but strong love and their future seemed all but certain to Elizabeth, until something terrible happened. No one has ever said exactly what he supposedly did, but Julian was sent away, when Elizabeth was just thirteen. Her family said it was for the best, given what happened and it was made clear to her that should he ever return, Elizabeth would be strictly forbidden from having anything to do with him. Elizabeth thought she'd put Julian out of her mind, considered him gone and part of her past. But when he suddenly returns, all the familiar feelings surface and what she is finally told that he has done, doesn't reconcile with the person standing before her. Elizabeth is determined to uncover the truth, to prove that Julian is the man she believes him to be.

The reader is introduced to Elizabeth Donovan, the youngest child in the Donovan clan. She was smart, flirtatious, and very artistic when it comes to painting landscape pictures. She loved attention from the opposite sex but had not found anyone that made her heart flutter like the boy next door did when she was thirteen years old. Unfortunately, he left under bad circumstances seven years ago and she had not heard a word from him since.

Will she find a man to marry that she can love?

Circumstances change for the Donovan family as the patriarch battles with dementia. Old scars are reopened and challenges await. The sun shines splendidly on one member of the family reigniting a flame.

In this eighth installment entitled 'The Youngest Donovan', the reader is presented with a clean and wholesome story. Although there were some grammatical errors, there were also some era anomalies. Other reviewers have already depicted most, if not all in detail already. This book is able to stand on its own, but it appears that each book has incorporated work from the previous installments and so it is recommended that you read them in order to enjoy the full effect of the journey these people took on their paths to their individual H.E.A.

Elizabeth and Julian 💞

Elizabeth had loved Julian since she was a young girl. However, he disappeared one day with no word. Imagine her surprise when he suddenly showed up after seven years.

Julian left due to an accusation that he stole money from Elizabeth's father. He didn't do it, but left to protect the one who did. He now has to prove himself to Elizabeth's brothers, as well as the townsfolk if he wants to have a chance to wed his "Lizbee" (I loved the nickname!)

Cute but no depth

It was a good easy read but I couldn't get emotionally into it. It was too simple to really enjoy

Another sweet one!

Thoroughly enjoyed this one! Glad to see Elizabeth get her happily every after! Just enough conflict to keep the story interesting, but not drawn out to the point of frustration!

The Youngest Donovan by Ashley Merrick is another wonderful story in the Mail-Order Brides series. Having read the 7 other books in the series, where all her brothers found brides & married, it was great to finally read Elizabeth & Julian's story.
It is a sweet & touching love story.
I enjoyed reading it.
A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!
