Much to do about nothing….. This 1912 publication takes the reader through a maze of disguises, mysteries and deceptions that will leave their heads spinning. When all the dust has settled you have a basic love story. This one differs only in the fact that the heroine isn’t quite sure whom she loves. The forty-four chapters weave their way far from the original point. It is like taking a trip from New York to San Francisco by way of Hong Kong. I generally just go with the flow of a book and wait to see where it takes me but in the case of Officer 666 I thought about putting out oars and rowing. This is my first taste of Barton Wood Currie and I must say it could really use some spicing up. I am not in any big hurry to find a sequel to this book and can’t, in good conscience, recommend it.

Fun and light read while work is busy, I enjoyed the part of the thief pretending to be someone else.

This books reminds me of P.G. Wodehose - crazy mix-ups that get increasingly more and more surprising.
The use of the word Jap (with the very un-Japanese name on top of it) is a serious detraction to the humor of the book.

from an audiobook... the humor itself hasn't aged well and can be a bit racist. The story is all about a bunch of mix-ups and confusion and while somewhat funny in places was also just plain, staight-up infuriating in places. Overall this was just okay.

This book was just like something else with elements of humor, suspense, confusion, stupidity, trickery...
Generally the plot was ok, but a bit confusing at times, there are lots of chapters (44) but they are short and the tale follows through quite well. Once you begin though, you will want to get to the next chapter to see what happens. However the ending to me was a bit disappointing. There's much activity throughout the book but no true action or drama.
