God told Adam and Eve "in the day that you eat" of the forbidden fruit, "you shall surely die." Satan, the adversary, enticed Eve to sin, and death ensued. But, God promised that through Eve, her Seed would crush the head of Satan, bringing Life back to man! That glorious promise, the promise of the restoration of the life lost in Adam, is seen as unfulfilled by Evangelical Christianity. But, in this concise, easy to read, but compelling book, Daniel Rogers shares with the reader the wonderful, liberating and assuring reality that the last enemy is defeated! This book is about the Triumph of Christ, not the failure and not the postponement, of God's promises! This book will thrill your heart, and make you want to serve the God that has kept His promises!
Goodreads stars are a bit strange, because two stars seems really low, but it's technically "It was okay."
The book was fairly well written, though the Kindle version I read did have some formatting errors. I think Daniel made some good points about Biblical topics, but by the end I was unconvinced. A number of ideas he had about text, at least in my opinion, seemed to be formed around his belief on AD 70, not around the context of the verse, though of course I can't know his motivations. A number of scripture references, in my opinion, were used highly out of context in trying to tie them to AD 70 and preterism (which this book advocates) rather than what the context around it says.
That being said, Daniel is a friend, and I am currently in contact with him asking some of the questions I had at the end of the book, so there's always a possibility I would change my review in the future based on further study.
He spiritualizes thanatos to only be about spiritual death. Not worth the read. He also has many implications of this view like the election of the saints. Rogers is a smart young man and I will say a much better writer than Preston but he really needs to rethink full preterism. I pray he eventually grows out of it with more study.
This book tackles the problems of the death and resurrection of the physical body in 1 Corinthians 15 in a consistent fulfilled prophecy understanding. The truth spoken of in 1Corinthians 15 is supported by many other scriptures throughout the NT.
