Employing a framework based on Annales socio-historical methodology, this study examines the comparison of archaeological data and ancient documentary evidence. Documentary materials that relate to Middle and Late Bronze Age Palestine and Transjordan are discussed as a single, independant source of evidence, whilst archaeological data from excavations in Middle and Late Bronze Age levels at Pella in Jordan are presented as a separate, independant source.
