A second collection of stories from a master of broad farce. It introduces the reader to an eccentric world peopled by characters who, ordinarily enough, live for football, music and sex, but who are also monopedes, cross-gender doppelgangers, window-fetishists or sock-throwers.
This book of short stories was, in the main, pretty enjoyable - with the observations of aspects of human nature very well done in places. One quiet piece near the middle from the POV of a man and woman in a couple misunderstanding and thinking the worst of each other was poignant and sharply done, and there were several others among these which also stood out. However, for all that the characters showed variety, the situations too, there began to be a degree of repetition of theme and atmosphere in these tales of Scots folk on the fringe of strange. Not so much a criticism, but a limitation to my enjoyment.
