After the events of the DEATH OF HAWKMAN miniseries, Adam Strange is blasted through multiple dimensions only to land on Earth! There, instead of super-powered beings and legendary crime fighters, he encounters a boy adventurer and his scientist father—and they’re the only ones who can help him return home. Jonny Quest, Hadji, Dr. Quest and Race Bannon have a plan, but it’s going to involve a dangerous trek through Dino Boy’s Lost Valley of prehistoric threats!
And in the backup feature starring Top Cat, breaking out of prison is challenging enough for a cat, but sometimes it means stumbling through a cosmic portal to planet Earth…and right into the hands of Batman!
one involves a sort of combined epilogue to the future quest (My Review can be read here ) and the Death of Hawkman (My Review can be read here ) story line .
This story shows what happened in the immediate aftermath to Adam Strange in the Death of Hawkman storyline . We see Adam recover his memories by finding similarities in the Quest world to his own existing DC world . One such similarities being Hawkman and Birdman .
In terms of what happened I felt a bit let-down as not much happened apart from
Again, the actual cross over was good, but the back up wasn't anything to write home about. Hopefully the Jetson's back up in the Booster Gold/Flintstones book won't be terrible too, because I was really looking forward to it.
OMG, how do you screw up a Jonny Quest story? By not having enough Jonny Quest in it. This one was more about the adults, less about Jonny and Hadji. Adam Strange with amnesia came across as a doofus.
There are plenty of cameos throughout, and the Herculoids nod at the end was nice, but this one was a miss with me. If you're going to combine two properties, play to their strengths.
The Top Cat extra feature at the end was just ridiculous and served no real purpose.
Though I am an Adam Strange fan and was wowed over by the Future Quest series and a lover of Jeff Parker's work, this one-shot issue left me cold.
It all seems a little too manufactured to fit in with a DC and Hanna Barbera crossover, which is a shame as I was expecting something with a little more body and humour.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone as it's not really a standalone story and it doesn't add anything to the two ongoing storylines it crosses.
This isn't the best of the bunch - that falls to Suicide Squad / Banana Splitz.
Not the greatest story every told, but certainly not the worst. The pace was bit frenetic and characters needed a bit more development, but overall it was fun. Just not everything I'd expected it might be after finishing the two Future Quest volumes.
All I did was inwardly groan as I read this book. Adam Strange has amnesia? Groan. There's a Birdman looks like Hawkman reference? Groan. Top Cat hanging out with Catwoman? Groan. It's really like they didn't even try to make a good crossover book.
You don't need to have read either the Future Quest mini-series, featuring the Hanna Barbara action character, or the recent Adam Strange/Hawkman adventure to enjoy this stand alone story. Writers Marc Andreyko and Jeff Parker give us enough backstory so that we don't feel lost. Adam Strange really fits into the Quest universe quite well.
Hurtled by The Zeta Beam into this alternate world, Adam finds himself in a lost valley where young, Todd known as Dino Boy and his Neanderthal pal, Ug search for Todd's parents. Able to contact Dr. Quest, aid arrives to try and help Adam return to his own world. A fun story that would have fit right into the old Jonny Quest series.
Add on a short tale featuring Top Cat and Batman, believe it or not, this is a nice book that ranks as my third favorite in this cross over series.
