There is a slight bit of boosterism, or so it sounds. But for non-Ohioans, this little historical review packs in a lot of important information relevant not just to Cleveland and Ohio and Akron, but is an important contribution to explaining how the stage was set for Modern America; this is a great library discovery, a must for history teachers, and will open any reader's eyes to an important aspect of our nation's development.
definitely worth a gander if you have a psychic relationship of any kind with the cuyahoga river or its tributaries/greater watershed. it's howlingly dated in its historical voice and stops way before any of the interesting post 1960 stuff happens (river as fire, river as brownfrield, river as site of ecological gentrification? we can argue about that last one). mostly this book is good because of the cover art, but the insides are also acceptable to me
