Simon ' Specky ' Magee and his Under 14s football team, the Booyong High Lions, return to battle out the second half of their league's season. The Lions are playing well and Specky's form is looking good – perhaps good enough to win a scholarship to a prestigious sporting school. But a knee injury sees him sidelined, and suddenly his future is filled with uncertainty. Will his team make it to the finals without him? Will he be able to play if they do? And how is he going to impress the talent scout if he can't play footy? Meanwhile, he'll have to deal with his rival and worst enemy, Screamer Johnson , and he will meet the mysterious Tiger Girl and the Great McCarthy . Join Specky Magee as he finds out why there's more to being a champion than just being a legend on the field . Visit www.speckymagee.com.au for more
I think this is the best book in the series so far and I can understand why it's my son's favourite.
Specky wakes up with excruciating knee pain and is told he is not able to play football or do any activity for 7 weeks. The book looks at how he handles this along with issues around bullying, friendship, relationships and, of course, football.
My son has the same medical condition as Specky and it was great to see a book that deals with that issue and shows that kids can recover from it.
One thing I really enjoyed was the ending where Specky looks at what makes a champion. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
Third Specky Magee book has some interesting things to say about football injuries although it really should address it more firmly, and once again Specky is the ultimate legend of the game. He can't seem to ultimately put a foot wrong on the field, the champion of champions.
Personally, I enjoyed this book because it included the sometimes harsh reality of a sports career. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into any sport (especially AFL) to join the roller-coaster of thrills along with Specky and the Booyong High Lions footy team. The best part of this book is when Specky Magee misbehaves when he's told not to play footy for 7 weeks but does anyway.
Like the last two specky magee books ive read, with two great sporting writers. This book has met all the standards of the first two books, specky is again faced with problem, some choices and some mistakes.
specky and the booyong lions are looking good and speckys is in form maybe enough for a scholasrship but his knee injury is preventing him from playing for sven weeks so he sneeks behind the doctors back and plays but does that do him any good?
Specky loves AFL he doesnt go for a specific team but he loves the game he has an injury and meets Tiger Girl This is a good book for people who like AFL
