Conflicted Interest

Rate this book
Theo flies to Athens for a wedding with a stay for the vows, raise a toast, and get the hell back to work. He's staring down the barrel of the biggest gamble of his career, and can't afford the distractions of a glamorous city or desirable women; neither of which excite him much anyway.

Until he meets Audrey.

Brilliant, ruthless, and set on conquering the finance world, the young exec would rather be catching a London red-eye, than a mangled wedding bouquet. But when tall, mysterious Theo pulls her onto the dance floor, all thoughts of clients and contracts vanish. The man is intoxicating; his warm touch lingers long after his hands have left her body. They're from different cities and different worlds--it would never work.

And yet she's haunted by the brush of his lips against her throat, the delicious press of his body...

But Theo is keeping secrets that could break Audrey's heart and destroy everything she's worked for. In this careful dance of power and seduction, has Theo finally met his match?

Conflicted Interest is the first steamy installment of the sensual contemporary romance Conflicted Series, intended for ages 18+.

I found this book to be an interesting read. (No pun intended)

Audrey and Theon are both characters that have worked hard to get where they are and they have no intention of sitting back and letting it all go. This is the story of how a couple who live in different countries, each with high aspirations, meet and have a one night stand that struggles to turn into more. It is not OTT and there is no insta-anything. Except possibly the desire Theon feels for Adurey upon meeting her. Their feelings for each other are based on the time they’ve spent with each other.

The beginning seemed a little rough. There were things that some of the characters did that I just didn’t understand. The financial aspect was a little heavy and I must admit I skimmed through some of it. However, once I became invested in Audrey and Theon, the skimming stopped. I didn’t really understand all of the steps Audrey was taking in her job, this is a topic I pretty much know nothing about or have an interest in.

To me, this just felt like a regular everyday story without all the syrupy storylines to connect this couple. Which was actually refreshing. It definitely ends with a cliffhanger and I very much would like to read the next book when it’s released.

Conflicted Interest is a good debut novel by Ava Starke. The mystery, the secret that Theo was keeping was a little obvious, once details started pouring in, I figured out what he was keeping from Audrey and why. I also predicted how Audrey would react. But, just because Conflicted Interest was a little predictable does not mean that I did not enjoy reading the first part of Theo and Audrey's journey.

Theo and Audrey meet at the wedding of Audrey's ex boyfriend, who happens to be a friend of Theo's. They hit it off and indulge in a little fling while they're in Greece for the wedding and she figures that once she's back home in London, she'll never see him again, even if she wants to. But, when he extends a rather casual invitation to join him in Turkey, where he lives, should the occasion ever come up, she figures she may just take him up on his offer some day. After a week of flirtatious texts, and a hectic time for her in the office, she impulsively decides to fly to Turkey to visit him. While there, they enjoy each other, and even start falling for each other, even if they never voice their feelings, or even really discuss what their relationship might be.

Conflicted Interest is paced well for the most part, but dragged a little in the middle, when mundane points about both Audrey and Theo's business dealings were explained in too much detail. I'm still not sure what Audrey's big disdain for consultants is all about, nor am I sure what that says about her. She is a tad defensive, probably because of the bad breakup with her ex, but it makes her a little sensitive and prone to running without first getting an explanation. On the other hand, Theo is guilty of the same thing, hence the conflict at the end when the cliffhanger is presented. I could see the cliffhanger coming a mile away, but it was still a bit jolting because I could see both sides. Neither thought to ask the other for an explanation, and neither bothered, for their own pride's sake. That's pretty human of them, though, so I can't exactly fault them for it.

I am excited to read Conflicted Desire, am hoping it really does release this summer, rather than later.

I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.

From reading the blurb on this book I was intrigued and needed to know more, this book is written from dual POV and pulls you in quickly, the characters and story line flow with ease and the story is relatable and one you can devour in a few hours.

Ava starke has made quite an entrance with her debut novel and can't wait to see where she takes her characters in the next instalment from the conflicted series, definitely an author to watch out for, a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Conflicted Interest by Ava Starke. This is a new author to me. I found this story to be lack luster and boring. Banking and consulting work is not what I want to read about in my romance books. Theo and Audrey were pretty sexy in their own rights but together lacked heat in my opinion. I didn't feel the chemistry between them and felt let down by the book as a whole. Well written at least, just not for me, I appreciate the opportunity to read thebook and Thank Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I received an ARE of this books on Netgalley from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review. The preview defiantly made me wanting more! I enjoyed the book was written from the two main characters point of view, and let me it pulled me in really quickly. I couldn't put the book down. The storyline was well written that I couldn't put the book down at all. It was done within a few hours of me receiving the book. Loved how the characters Theo and Aubrey traveled around the world, it made me feel like I was with them while they traveled. I would defiantly recommend this book to those who love contemporary romantic. If you want to transport to another world this book def helps you do that!

Looking for something to read that caught my attention, I took a chance on Ava Starke’s debut novel, "Conflicted Interest"; and I’m glad I did. While at its heart, the novel is a romance story told from both Audrey’s and Theo’s perspectives; Starke, also, peals back the curtains on the world of international finance and entrepreneurship. So often, novels in the romance genre seem to be just one attempted sizzling scene after another with not much in-between to capture the reader’s interest. While the “sizzle” is there, Starke crafted a novel that has characters I am interested in, believable plot twists, and settings I would love to see with my own eyes. Even though this is book one in the Conflicted Series, the ending has a sense of closure; I enjoyed the book so much that I am eagerly anticipating the continuation of Audrey and Theo’s story.

The best romance protagonist

The most frustrating thing about romance novels is often the main character may start out fine, but becomes a feeble, diluted, shell of her former self when she falls in love. Not true with Ava Starke's characters. There is no need to put aside your feminist principals to relate to the character of Audrey. She is realistic and driven and for as much as she wants love, she won't sacrifice herself for it. That's not saying she isn't willing to compromise, just that she starts as a self assured woman, and ends the book that way. I have enjoyed so many other romance novels but never have I found one that hasn't made turn a blind eye to some aspect that rubbed my modern feminist ideals that wrong way, until now.

Five stars for story build and steaminess. Main characters were believable... felt I could run onto them in the street. They're real... embarrassing awkward moments and all.

Great story. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys contemp. romance. It takes place in different cities in Europe and then hops over to New York... one of my favorite cities to read about always!

This book was a definition of conflicted interest when two people from opposites of the work table have a fling and later find out just how tough it is to trust one another and not come to conclusions. Can't wait for the next book.

Theo - He is attending his acquaintance's wedding in Athens when he runs into Audrey, his acquaintance's ex-fiancee. He tries not to get involved with her since she is David's ex. But in the end, they have a night together he will not soon forget.

Audrey - She is a wasn't sure why she was invited to her ex-fiance's and went back and forth about going but in the end, she went anyway. She ran into Theo. When she realized he was a friend of David's she thought better of wanting to have any sort of fling with him. She kept saying she hadn't the time for a relationship. By the end of the night and into the wee hours of the morning, well, things didn't stay on her plan.

The next morning before Theo left to catch his flight back home in time so he could attend his football game in Istanbul, he asked Audrey to come visit him there. He never expected she would eventually accept his offer even though through the week while texting her he kept asking her to come. She showed up for a weekend. They had a small romance and parted ways with the hopes that he would visit her in London the following weekend. His plans changed and he had to be in New York for meeting for his company. He is the CEO of the company who has Volta, the electric car he is designing. National Motors makes him an offers along with the bank they are working with. What he doesn't know is that Audrey one of the reps for that bank and the on committee. She didn't know he was the head of the development of Volta until he walked into the boardroom for a meeting. What will happen now? Gotta read to find out.

I don't even know where to start. I enjoyed the book very much. The ending left me wanting more and I can't wait to read what comes next. I was intrigued at first with the story. I wasn't sure how the story would go since Audrey, Amercian born lives in London, England, and Theo lives in Istanbul, though he was raised in Germany. Now I understand the title. I'm disappointed that they never really got to know each other before that found out who they really worked for. But it was a laugh. Which any potential reader reading this review needs to read the book to know what I mean. There are some laughs and some sweetness. I'm sure you will be wanting to know more when you get to the end just like me but you will have to read the book to know why. I've given away too much already.

Get it today and find out what lies in the book for Audrey and Theo.

An International Love 💘 Affair
Theo🐺🍆🌋 is a German, living and working in Istanbul. He wants to settle down with a loving woman, but hasn't found the right one yet.
He is in Greece, attending a good friend's Greek wedding, when he sees a woman he desperately wants. Trouble us, she's Aubrey💋💃, his good friend's ex! Off limits! What She is doing at his wedding is very odd. Theo🐺🍆🌋 knows who she is but she has never met him.
Still, he is very drawn to her and seeks her out at every chance. Aubrey💋💃 is an investment banker at a very large firm in London. She is always on call, and this weekend getaway to Greece is interrupted by her boss, calling her to get some work done.
She thinks Theo🐺🍆🌋 is a playboy, because he is extremely handsome🐺, ripped💪, tall, and dark haired. with movie star looks.
They end up getting together on Theo's last night 🌙in Athens, and he knows he wants to see her again. XXX Sparks fly 🔥between them, he stays the night in her room, and He asks her to come visit him in Istanbul.

This is a great story inside this book📙, with lots of interesting, character building detail. The author's attention to detail draws the book📙 out a little bit but it's well worth the read! Adults only. Recommend!

I was just as hot and bothered reading this as the characters were going through this! Audrey and Theo had me loving them and wanting me to slap them upside their heads while reading this book. I can also say I learned a bit more about the financial world and business mergers. Can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

There was so much conflict happening in this book! It took a little while to get to the heart of the story, but it was quite a complex tale of movers and shakers trying to get that ultimate deal without getting burned in the process. Audrey and Theo tiptoed around each other endlessly, and neither would lay all their cards on the table. I enjoyed this book, but there were times I wanted to yell at each of them for their shortsightedness, despite how intelligent they were. It was sensually appealing, but does leave with a little cliffhanger. You'll need to read the next book to find out what happens.

Unbelievable, a story of fiction that somehow reads like nonfiction. Theo and Audrey: The story was excellent and the plot was so intriguing that I could not stop reading. From page one I knew I was headed to a romance that was not your typical read. This was based on a very high profile, very big financial deal between Audrey's bank and Theo's company. It was interesting to read about how financial transactions were made and the implications of the "conflict of interest" could be devastating. Audrey met Theo at a wedding before either of them realized they were involved in the same hundred and sixty million dollar deal. Audrey put the brakes on the relationship with Theo as soon as she realized what was going on. She was the epitome of ethical and moral grace. Theo had a hard time with this not knowing what was going on with Audrey. As they tried to reach out to each other, misunderstandings and suspicions grew. This ends on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book Conflicted Desire. I voluntarily received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book from Hidden Gems.

Oh My! This book has it all....desire, deceit, drama. A fun fling turns into a forbidden future. Can Audrey and Theo actually get their hearts and heads in the same place at the same time? I read this book in a few short hours because I could do nothing else until I got to the last word. Then, I immediately screamed NO!!!! And went and bought the 2nd book in the series. I HAVE to find out how this relationship progresses. A definite MUST read. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Well crud.....this book ends with a CLIFFHANGER! Yes, I said it. Just wanted to get that out of the way first off.

Audrey is a woman whose career in banking may or may not be what she wants to do with her life. At the beginning of the story she is attending the destination wedding of her ex-fiance. She is conflicted about whether she should have attended or not but thought it might be a chance to move on from the past. At the wedding she is drawn to a handsome and enigmatic man.

Theo is a man of mystery. He doesn't like to share information about his life. He allows Audrey to believe he is a consultant even though he wants to tell her otherwise. As the story progresses, Audrey begins to realize that Theo is not who she thought he was.

Audrey and Theo are great as a couple, in theory. They both have so much baggage that they are never able to connect fully with each other. Their misunderstandings were so frustrating but propelled the story forward. Audrey's ex-finance, David, was a jerk. I shook my fist at his actions and I really hope he gets his payback in the next book. There is a LOT of banking detail in this book. Audrey spends the story brokering a huge deal and that is detailed in the book. And then there's the cliffhanger. I can't even....

This story is written in first person alternating POV. This is a contemporary romance.

Quotes:
I was always working. In my thirty-five years of wisdom, love seemed fraught with disappointment. loc 135

Audrey wasn't just the ex, she was THE ex; the one who got away. David had spoken of her bitterly one night over drinks; ... loc 170

I really like this story line even though the cliffhanger is frustrating. The plot is just complex enough to keep you interested. I did feel bogged down at times with extravagant wording and more information about business than I felt was necessary. I am anxious to read the next book in this series, although the essay questions at the end made me feel like I was in Literature class. Can anyone say 10 stars please- Ok I must say that I started this series backwards because I was asked to read book two before I knew how much I would love this series and then I was offered the chance to read book 1. This is hands down one of the most enjoyable, hot, entertaining, magical, and just plan amazing book series that I have read. Not only are the characters described so amazingly the scenery, the relationships, the chemistry, actually the entire book from start to finish was phenomenal. I fell in love the with the determination and drive that both characters showed but when they were together WOW. I have added this along with book 2 of this series to my list of will read again and again. Ava Starke is an amazing author.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is the first book in the Conflicted Series and features Theo and Audrey. They were both so consumed with work and no time for romance until they met each other at a wedding. Wow, sparks flew like a combustion and chemistry that was off the charts. But they lived in separate countries not to mention that Theo had secrets he was keeping. Lots of sex, drama and suspense followed by a cliffhanger. Well written with complex characters.

This book has left me feeling conflicted! After a few months I decided to pick my Kindle back up - shock! I was able to carry on without going back over the previous chapters, which is also a good thing.

Audrey and Theo meet at Audrey's ex's wedding - Awks - and have some chemistry...

After the short wedding fling they both head their separate ways; until Audrey pulls up her big girl pants and goes on an adventure just for some fun.

This is the part that gets the ball rolling and a few of my own "Oooh, lets take a guess at who he really is" moments.

They end up skirting around each other and also making assumptions. Tons of Assumptions!

but in the end it all comes out... The truth that is... and yet we continue assuming.

Just as the book ends it - you get a God damn cliffhanger! and this is where my conflict comes in.

I like the story and i want to know what the heck happens BUT I also find myself drifting over a ton of detail. It's great that you can literally see everything in your head... but i'm the kinda reader who wants the action, which is all my own personal preference.

Maybe.

I must confess that I do not read often. You could even call me a romance novel “virgin”. But Conflicted Interest kept me interested by traveling around the world and watching Theo and Audrey try to separate their personal and professional lives. It was so descriptive in details. When I went back to work, my coworkers asked if I completed all the projects I had planned for the weekend. “No” I said. I had an adventure. I told them I had an affair. They looked at me…..then I said a book affair. They laughed. Thanks Ava, for getting me back into reading. I can’t wait for Conflicted Desire.

The characters are well described and likeable. The storyline and plot is nice. The twists makes it a great read. Over the top chemistry and passion.
I was captivated by this story because it is different from the usual romances. I was amazed by the writing style and the story.
Two characters have worked hard for the place in the society and they will not let themselves down and loose it all.

I like it is written in dual POV, which gives the reader both the thoughts and feelings of the main characters.

Filled with passion, love, romance, emotional ups and downs and twists and turns.
Absolutely worth the read!

Conflicted Interest it is lame story and it ends with the cliffhanger. You know when you read and read and read a lame story and you are expecting that something interesting will happen I got news for you in this book don’t happen. It is a stor with 60% of reading about Theos and Audrey job, the other 20% percent is about their past and poorly 20% about their relationship. Decent characters without too many huge surprises with decent chemistry. The book is a huge disappointed and I think I will pass the next one.
