Court Appointed by Annmarie Mckenna

Jackson knows he needs protection from a stalker, but the last thing he wants is to want his bodyguard.

After receiving several suspicious “gifts”, His Honor Jackson Benedict is assigned an agent for protection. He’d be fine with a bodyguard…if he was anyone but the man who enters his courtroom looking hotter than any man has a right to look. Thank God Jackson’s robe hides his interest.

Trey London is more than happy that Jackson has practically been handed to him on a silver platter. If his job requires he stay close to one of the country’s youngest federal judges, it’s no skin off his back. The closer the better, actually.

But someone else is getting closer, too, and when the gifts turn into attacks, Trey is forced to trade his status of new lover for that of protector. He’s not about to let anyone come between him and his judge.

For Love and Country by Mary Winter

Love? Or duty? His choice will damn his country—or his heart.

Vampire Basile Gagnon wants nothing more than to put the United States, its war, and the heartbreak he found on its shores far behind him. He has suffered the loss of one too many mortal lovers, and refuses to risk his heart again, not even for Emil, the mortal he turned away five years ago.

When Union soldier Emil Franks steps aboard Basile’s ship, his mission is to try to convince Basile to lend his vessel to the Union cause. But with one look at his former lover, he reveals far more—his lingering love for Basile.

Neither time nor the fires of war have dimmed their passion for each other, but not even the fact that Emil is now a vampire can sway Basile from his course. In two days’ time, he leaves for his native France.

On this war-torn Valentine’s Day, Emil must choose: Love? Or country?

Hot Ticket by K. A. Mitchell

Love’s the last thing you expect to find in the trash.

Elliot Graham doesn’t make mistakes. So when he ends up serving community service at a recycling plant for inadvertently buying stolen property, he’s certain it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to him. That is, until he finds tickets to a sold-out concert in the trash, tickets that immediately disappear into the pocket of the hottest—and most exasperating—guy he’s ever met.

Cade McKuen has never been one to follow society’s expectations. That’s why he’s serving time sorting trash for destroying his cheating ex-lover’s car rather than apologize. Finding those tickets is an unexpected bonus to an otherwise smelly sentence. But when cute, sputtering Elliot claims a share, Cade decides community service might be the best thing that’s happened to him all year.

Cade is determined to keep Elliot off balance and tap into the passion he senses is hidden under that buttoned-down exterior. Elliot is fascinated by Cade’s outrageous way of thumbing his nose at the world.

Opposites attract, but can passion be the ticket to something lasting?

First, the confession. I didn't realize this was M/M erotica until I got the book in the mail. I'm a fan of Annmarie McKenna and ordered it online without reading the blurb. Since some fellow online reading buddies have been urging me to try out the M/M genre, I thought "What the heck!" and dug in.

"Serving Love" is a three story anthology from Samhain. Each author's tale has a different feel and with one historical and two contemporaries, I figured this would be a nice way to 'ease' into the 'nekkid man-love' as advertised on the back cover.

"Court Appointed" by Annmarie McKenna is a contemporary tale of acceptance and love wrapped in a mystery/action story. Jackson is a court judge who is presiding over a mobster-affiliated trial. None of the threats bother him until he receives an item stolen from his home and delivered to his office. When the Agent who shows up to investigate is handsome Trey, Jackson isn't sure what to feel! But he does know they'll have to come to some kind of agreement in order to pay any attention to who's trying to kill him! ***These two are both hot and hot together. Coming from different backgrounds with different experiences in partners, it was touching to see how they both compromised to make their lives work together.

"For Love and Country" is Mary Winter's historical look at love and honor, and duty and country. New vamp and Union soldier Emil must face his ex-lover Basile, who broke it off to save himself the heartache of loving a mortal. But will Emil's new 'life' be enough? Especially when Emil will ask Basile to risk his life, and his ship, for Emil's country? ***This was my least favorite of the three. The conflict just didn't work well for me and I didn't get a strong feeling of connection or love between the two.

"Hot Ticket" was my favorite of the three. K.A. Mitchell's story of opposites and new love was very moving. Elliot is young and staid. Cade is an older free-spirit. But the attraction between them is undeniable. Elliot will need to learn quickly to make Cade see that years and experience can't match a heart filled with love. ***The emotion and tenderness between these two was a beautiful thing.

So, will I read more M/M? Probably. Will it become my favorite genre? I don't think so, if only because I still read a bit of everything and can't stand the thought of 'missing' out.

Anthologies in general are not my thing. If I am gonna read a book I want a large plot. I never though I would say thins but I need more than sex. Gasp. Shocking I know. I'm not down with a the HEA's anthologies give. But, it is a great way to find a new author.

I figure if you can pull me in with 100 pages or less than I will read your stuff.

These were okay. Nothing great, but it wasn't torture to read either.

The first one was way to instant HEA. But had a good who done it vibe.

The second was a historical. You feel the attraction and tension between them. It worked as a short. Plus, there is a vampire element. But the back and forth angust between them was annoying.

Hot Ticket by K.A. Mitchell

Sometime is tender to read a very beatiful love story.

Elliot and Cade meet during community service. Elliot was condamned to have bought stolen items (even if without bad intention) and Cade to have vandalized his ex-lover car after finding the man cheating in their bed with a lot younger man.

Elliot is a 23 years old clerck. He has a simple and ordinary life, he is gay and he has a crush for a man he has barely spoken. And he is virgin (in his past only 3 blowjob...). Cabe is a 33 years old post-hippie. He has quitted with college and now he works has a waiter. Where Elliot is all next door good boy, Cabe has 14 piercing on his ears, one on his eyebrows, one on his toungue and one on his nipple. Where Elliot is classical music and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m work, Cabe is heavy metal and night shifts. Everything seems to drive them apart, but the sex is very hot. For Elliot it's not only the first lover thing or the thrilling to savour a different life style, but Cabe is not so sure of that. He was hurt in the past and to trust again is a long way. Will Elliot be patient enough?

Even if it's Cabe who call the shot, sexually speaking it's Elliot who is the top. And it's very tender to read of the first time of Elliot and of his eagerness which can be a real pain for Cabe, but which at the end is a really good experience for both and a very arousing scene to read. Without doubt for Elliot, the relationship with Cabe is a matter of growing, a journey in discovery his sexuality. Cabe on the other hand, has seen a lot and tried even more, but "training" Elliot, will give him a new perspective.

We don't know if the relationship will last: Elliot is very young and at his first experience with a lover... in the real life probably they will break in few year, but this is a romance, and I want to think that this two guy will find an everlasting love together.

Court Appointed by Annmarie McKenna

Jackson is a judge. Old money family and comfy life, he is one of the younger federal judges of the country. And he has a right path for Washington. But there is a problem. Jackson likes men. Believing this could ruin his career he has always kept a low profile, having relationship with men who have maybe more reason than him to hide. And so no one knows about him apart his ex lovers and his father, an homophobic man who has never accepted his son.

But now hiding could be a deadly decision for Jackson, cause he is blackmailing by someone who obviously knows about him. And who has the possibility to enter annoticing in his home. So Jackson has to report to FBI, and the man who replies to his request is Trey, Jackson's wet dream. Jackson knows Trey and has always fantasized about him, but till now he has never tried to discover if the man could be possibly interested in having an affair. Cause a real story is not possible...

But Trey is not interested in an affair, he is interested in all and soon. He makes pretty clear that from that moment on, Jackson's safety, and body, are his own duty and a duty he is very willingly to accomplish. And if being his 24 hours bodyguard means share a bed... it's even better.

Jackson and Trey are really similar, both in looks than in behaviour. They are both strong men, and it's pretty funny the scene where Trey is hurrying to save the judge, and the man knocks down two men without help... if Trey would be less self-conscious, he could have an inferiority complex!

The sex story steals somewhat the scene to the suspence-thriller one. And there are some points of the suspence story which remain unsolved at the end, end which maybe happens a bit to quick... has the author a lenght limit in mind? I was really getting into the story and... puff... it was finished...
