Allyson Young lives in cottage country in Manitoba, Canada with her husband of many years and numerous pets. ***** 5 Cranky Stars ****

This is the story of unconditional love, faith, hope and friendship. It's also the story of struggles, addiction, anger and sadness.

Austin and Cord grew up together. They're practically brothers and attached at the hip until they meet December. She captured Austin's heart at first sight and before anyone can blink they're married. This leaves Cord feeling like a third wheel.

While he's happy for them, he once again puts his feelings on the back burner. Life is wonderful until Austin loses his job. Spiralling downhill fast he turns his problems over to alcohol and away from his loved ones. December is lost without Austin's love and support and turns to his best friend Cord for help.

Cord has always had a secret but he won't let that stand in the way of helping his friends when they need him. When they all start to come together to help heal each other the feelings fly free.

I loved every aspect of this book series. The way the authors portrayed very real situations with raw emotion sucked me in. This series is a definite must read that has me wanting more.

When I first saw the covers for this trilogy, I thought it was a straight up menage story, but I was so wrong.
How can the perfect marriage between two perfect people, Austin and December, turn into a nightmare? One word: addiction. Can they save themselves and their marriage? Possibly, with lots of strong love, determination, and the help of a very close friend, Cord. These three books are filled with intense, emotional, heartbreaking, romantic, and brave storytelling. I don't think I can adequately put into words how much I loved this trilogy. When I hear the songs "December" by Collective Soul and "Glycerine" by Bush, I will be reminded of these characters for a long time.
The authors have definitely gained a new fan.

What a wonderfully written series. I find it hard to believe that this series was written by two authors, they have written this so seamlessly you can't tell who wrote what part. This was an awesome introductions to these authors.
Forfeit (Degrees of Separation #1)
What a fabulous way to start this trilogy! As I was reading this book I kept thinking why am I reading this book, I don't like this book...But then I had to step back and pay attention. You see some of this book seemed to mirror some of my life so long ago. Austin was so like my ex in this book, up to a certian point...I wanted to pop Austin on the back of his head and tell him to see what he was doing to his wife and best friend and hug December and tell her to hang in there it will get better. The characters of Austin, December, and Cord are complex and the real life issues are very complicated. You can't help but feel the emotional roller coaster these three go through. But wait there is more to come.
Lost Together (Degrees of Separation #2)
I started reading this book as soon as I finished the first book. I had to know what was going to happen to Austin, December, and Cord. In book one their lives where crumbling and falling apart. The roller coaster of emtions continue in this book. Austin struggles from the brink with Cords help and December has run from the husband she loves but can't give him what he needs to heal and from Cord who she also loves. We see healing, strength, forgiveness, and love throughout this well written book. It is hard to believe this book is written by 2 authors, Lydia Michaels and Allyson Young. They have done a wonderful job and you can't tell who wrote what.
Atonement (Degrees of Separation #3)
I could't wait to read this book I had to find out what happens with Austin, December, and Cord. I have fallen in love with these characters while riding the emotional roller coaster with them. You will want to read the first two books in this trilogy so you are not lost while reading this book. Austin, December, and Cord wade through the murky waters of their budding relationship with each other. We have watched Austin grow so much since book one and his character brings this fabulous trio together forever. Out of all three books this one is my favorite.
I Highly Recommed this well written, emotional read.

This series is all about unconditional love . hope faith and what you will do to find your way back to the ones you love . There is also betrayal and addiction that you have to get through to find your way back to the ones you love .
In the first book FORFEIT we are introduced to Austin and December and Austin's best friend Cord . Cord and Austin grew up together and did everything together . Until the day they met December . She captured Austin's heart and fell in love . Life was great until the day it all falls apart and Austin's addiction takes control . Things happen that will keep you on the edge of your seat and really want to slap Austin up side the head .
In book two LOST TOGETHER . We see the all their lives crumbling around them and we see Austin fight his addiction and Cord and December fighting to bring him back . We see them start to rebuild their lives and see what their love can do .
In book three ATONEMENT . We see all three of them build their lives around each other. Cord and December are working their way through the budding love that is blossoming between them . As Austin works on his addiction and his love for both of them . They work through what they want and they start to live the life that they all want .
I read all these books in like a weekend , who knew that two authors sat down and wrote this series Allyson Young and Lydia Michaels did such a fantastic job. It is seamless . The characters will rip out your heart , you will cry and want to slap a couple of characters upside the head a few times . They you will laugh and cheer as you finish the story . I will warn you that if you have any triggers about addiction this might not be the series for you . But I would take the chance and read a great set of books that will make you think and love the ones you have

Book One is less erotic and focuses on the story of a couple, December and Austin, who's marriage is breaking down because he lost his job, and now fills his time sleeping off hangovers and drinking. This book gives a real insight into living with somebody with an addiction.
Book Two however is when the relationship begins to heal and their friend, Cord, starts to feature, as it is he who ultimately stays by Austin's side as he quits the booze. December, who could take no more, left Austin to live with her parents, who are hippies with an open partnership.
What happens next is the beginning of a threesome. December returns and things develop sexually between the couple and their friend.
I have read a few books now that feature this kind of unconventional relationship and so my reaction was less WTF and more uh-oh because, of course, emotionally a threesome can be fraught and communication is key, but of course Austin and Cord are men and men are reluctant communicators.
The relationship does develop well, there is always bumps in the road in any relationship, and all three have their own demons, but they are all in it together.
The sex is hot, no doubt about that. Austin and December have sex. Austin and Cord have sex. December and Cord have sex. Cord and Austin and December have sex. The only problem I had was the language, calling the vagina her 'channel' did douse the flames a little.
I didn't like the characters. Austin came across as arrogant. December chose to be a stay at home wife. She cooks, she cleans, and looks after her 'boys' I don't like this fifties type lifestyle.
Cord was one of the more likeable characters, and his parents and December's I enjoyed reading about.

This trilogy is good, insightful for many reasons, an eye opener too, and I raced through the books. You did feel as if you went from A to C with the characters.
Degrees of Separation is the perfect read when coupled with a free few hours, chocolate, & wine. Reviewed on The Reader's Handbook katiecreativewriter.wordpress.com I received a free copy of this book.
