Neil Duffield's modernist staging brings great freshness to this well-known tale, making it relatively easy to stage without constant scene changes. The spirit of the original is not lost, but there is less sense of deja vu.
The use of a chorus who become interchangeable characters makes it possible to stage the play with a relatively small cast, but it does place a burden on whoever plays Scrooge, who is on stage for the whole play except for about 60 seconds at the end - just enough to change his coat and hat.
