Watercolour painting is an absorbing, meditative artform that many people would like to enjoy but don't attempt to because they believe they can't paint or simply don't know where to begin. An encouraging voice and a clear, easy-to-follow approach is often all that's needed to give people the confidence to get started and keep going. That's exactly what Watercolour provides.
Paul Clark, an enthusiastic and accomplished painter who runs his own art school, explains the fundamentals in a friendly and accessible way. He shows readers what they really need in terms of tools and materials--starting with a limited color palette that can be mixed to create the vast majority of colors required. He then explains and illustrates the basic techniques, before presenting ten of his paintings that put those techniques into action. Each painting is broken down into stages, with clear instructions and photographs for readers to follow, plus plenty of helpful tips. In addition, there are three feature spreads that focus on particular areas of interest for beginners, including special effects, painting trees and painting skies.
It’s difficult to figure out how to begin with watercolour without getting discouraged. I was looking for basic advice using minimal supplies because I’m also interested in learning about colour mixing. Paul’s book does just that. Beginning with simple exercises and leading up to more advanced techniques I’m inspired every time I open the book. I also highly recommend looking him up on YouTube because his instructional videos are amazing.
I just started watercolor painting and googled to see who was the best watercolor teacher and Paul Clark came up with rave reviews so I thought I’d check him out.
So glad I did!! I love his method of teaching and his immense knowledge and creativity!!!!
This book is excellent!!! A must read! A must have!!
I would say this book is more for the advanced beginner ... and assumes that while you might not know watercolor that well, you can draw pretty well. I'll come back to this after I've been using a different one for complete beginner ideas. And I think my husband will still have to draw the pictures out for me first.
I love love love this Book. This is the first book to teach me everything I didn’t know and have yet to learn. I have now continued learning from his tutorials on YouTube. Can’t get enough - I am elderly in Assisted Living and Paul’s tutorials keep my batteries charged.
Facebook has beautiful step-by-step photos and teaches you step-by-step techniques it’s wonderful Thank you Paul Clark. His onLine videos are great too
