Andrew Kingly had gone out west to start a new life for himself. He took advantage of the homesteading laws in California and found his small slice of heaven. Everything was perfect, and after a year, he had a home, a ranch and all of the freedom that he needed. There was one thing missing in his new life, though, love and a family. When he found both impossible in the west, desperate measures were taken.
He found a posting for a woman that was willing to come west and marry him. Andrew didn’t know what to expect, but it was not the fiery redhead that showed up off the train. Ashley was beautiful, and they were married as soon as she arrived. That left the two married, but strangers. Andrew was falling in love with his wife, and he just had to convince her of the same. Ashley was finding it hard to adapt to her new life and role. There were no servants around to help her cook and clean. There was only her patient husband’s gentle hand to help guide her. As much as she failed at her new duties, Ashley was determined to become a good wife to him in all ways.
Will Ashley and Andrew succeed to find love when circumstances are all against them? Will passion and affection flourish between the two?
This is a standalone story with no cliffhangers and a Happy-Ever-After ending, and is part of the Mail Order Brides Go West Series.

I'm not sure where to begin with this novel. I don't ever like to give negative reviews; however, sometimes it is just impossible not too. The thought process and the ideas behind the characters in this novel are present in the story and are solid in what they could be, they just didn't get filled out in a way that could have made this book better.
I understand that this novel was a short-story; however, with everything that was included in the plot and climax, I feel that the novel should have been longer to be able to include everything in a way that each piece of information deserved.
The author has amazing ideals, she just seemed rushed to the point that simple errors were made. In sentences, the pronoun he would be used to describe a she, and at one point all of the names were mixed up. Now, this is typical for every novel, once or twice, but to happen over and over making the story hard to read is where this becomes a problem.
I will still try other Emma Harper novels, because I believe she has amazing potential.
