A world of shifters, witches, vampires, suspense, and romance. ON A MISSION TO RETRIEVE a dangerous stone stolen from his pack, Gabriel Madoc accidentally kills the thief--a wolf shifter from a rival clan. Gabe has sworn never to take a mate, and so he's utterly undone by his primal, protective reaction to the dead werewolf's human wife. ANNIE BELO DIDN'T KNOW werewolves existed; now on the next full moon she will become one--and she'll have to trust her husband's killer to help her through the change. And . . . a dragon shifter might be after them both.
LK Rigel is the author of the Apocalypto series: Space Junque, Spiderwork, and Firebird; and the Wyrd and Fae series: Give Me, Bride of Fae, Fever Mist, and A Glimmering Girl.
Her My Mr. Rochester (Jane Eyre Retold) a retelling of the Gothic novel set in a future utopia.
Her short story Slurp is included in Deadly Treats, an anthology edited by Anne Frasier from Nodin Press. Rigel's writing has also appeared in Literary Mama and Tattoo Highway.
The worst thing about a really good book is that eventually you come to the end. I read this through in one day because it was so good I couldn't stop. Typical of L.K. Rigel, there were many characters and twists and turns to the plot. I did figure out some things in advance, but that's because she leaves clues. I love how her female leads are strong women who actually stay strong even when they fall in love. Sure falling in love is scary and we sometimes second guess, but so many books have pages and pages of "maybe he/she doesn't really love me" type of thoughts that it becomes nauseating. Not so with LKR's books. Another great thing about her books are the love scenes. Maybe a little more than PG but not erotica and I am frankly tired of books with pages and pages of descriptive sex over and over again. You know it's just filler material used to turn a 100 page book into 200 pages. LKR's characters love each other and they show that love in real life ways beyond groping and humping - like doing things for each other. I look forward to the next book in this series. I hope there will be a book about Duilio and Ruah. I would love to see them get together, especially since the doofus Ruah thinks she is in love with has the hots for Phaedra. Those two are slated for the next book in this series. Christ on a cracker! I said I wasn't going to start another series until all the books had been completed and released! Curses, foiled again! LOL. I can hardly wait.
I received a free ARC for my honest review of this book.
Wow, very good read. You have all different type of characters, from humans, shifters, witches, vampires, and more. You have action, love, suspense, and so much more. I can't say enough about how will this was written. I did feel the book was a little confusing in the beginning, some of the words we don't usually use and I did have to look a couple up, but then it was usually because the meaning was different or it had no translation or definition. The book became hard to put down cause you wanted to know what happened next. I think this book would be awesome read for my students if you used some every day words instead of using words that are not used in todays times and changed the prologue some how because that might hold them back from reading the book.
L. K. Rigel's Wild Things is a great read. It started out a little disturbing for me, and I almost didn't read it, but I decided to keep reading. I am so glad I did! Although she has a tragic story, Annie Belo is a likable character. I seriously wanted to throw her out a window, at first. But, as it turns out, there is a reason for her behavior in the beginning. I actually enjoyed Annie, Gabe, Ruah, and Zara. The story line is great and the twist for Miss Annie, well, that was awesome! The premise is interesting, as are the characters, and it was hard to put down. Looking forward to reading Wicked Games.
I was surprised by this book from the start. Mostly because whoever wrote the description to this book must not have actually read the book themselves. So with that being said, this book was interesting, but the writing style was very odd. All the twenty-something-characters sounded like they were in their forties, and even the "bad guys" in this book came across as Boy Scouts. As original as any werewolf/vampire/dragon story can be anymore I guess, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
What a great start to what will surely be a worthwhile series! The Author does a fine job of summarizing the plot in the books description so I do not do that in my reviews. The story was fast paced and the characters well developed. I love the numerous characters the reader is introduced to. I was captivated from the start and will definitely read the next in series when it is released. I highly recommend for all paranormal suspense lovers.
I loved this story. Part of that is the cat's name which is the same as our little beauty. Few people I know have heard of the movie Bell, Book, and Candle let alone the cat's name. I also have a cousin named Phaedra, lol. This book is well written and I look forward to the rest of the series. I'll be adding this book to my permanent library!!
I loved it! A very exciting read, with some original and interesting ideas. Well written, though it did start off a bit slow, but mid-way it picked up speed like nobody's business. A HEA shifter story with some twists.
What a great first book in what looks like a fascinating series! Totally new author to me, and one I will be reading more of. Witches, dragons, werewolves and Griffiths, what more could you ask for? Can't wait to read more!
Loved it, loved it, loved it! Werewolves, witches, dragons, and a griffon, oh my! Can't wait for the next book in the series, and the book after that...
This is the first book i have read by this this author and i was blown away at the quality of writing in this book, i couldn't stop reading the book and the more i read the more i was hooked on everything about this book, from the world that this is based in to the vivid descriptions of the characters and all the elements of the storyline.
The storyline of this book is so imaginative, when you have read a kot of shifter books like i have they can become quite similar but that is most definitely not the case in this book, it really is such a unique book with a different feel from most books that i adored. A lot happens in this book but it is written in such a way that it's not too much information or too much going on, it flows perfectly throughout the whole book making you want to bbe part of it, so much so you really don't want it to end, after reading this book i am dying to read more of this author's work and that is simply down to the quality of the writing in this book.
I fell in love with the characters in this book! I adored Annie in this book and i love how we see the change within her throughout this book, she starts off as quite demure and kind of trodden down but throughout you see her blossoming into a self aware, confident and strong woman that no doubt her family saw. I love how she seems to take everything in her stride and her acceptance of things that she has no control over. I just think she is an awesome character to read. I have the same opinion of Gabe, i could read about him all day! He has a view of how he wants his life to go but he didn't consider fate. He is extremely honourable and he will always do what he feels is right especially if it involves women or children, there is so much to him that he doesn't seem to realise is in him. He is so protective and has a huge heart if he is open to letting people into it. There are so many characters in this book but i don't want to spoil it for anyone.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, and if readers read a book then this one has got to be it. I would give this book more than 5* if i could. This is a must read!!!
Deep in an underground vault, Bozzle received a message. He dreaded making it known, but they would find out if he concealed it. That started off the adventure, with the reader immediately drawn into the story!
Annie was nervous, waiting for a delivery of the flowers and vegetables for her orchard business. She did not like the man who worked for her and delivered the order. She wore a ring her grandfather had made for her and uttered the words he taught her, “bloodstone protect me”, to calm herself. In the distance, she heard a wolf howl.
To her surprise, after months of not seeing her husband, he arrived on her birthday. She really didn’t like him, but if he came near her, it was like being under a spell and he was all she could think about. Then he took her to bed and sprinkled something on her face. He was going to make her his, he said. But she whispered “bloodstone protect me” in her mind, and her ring got so hot that her finger burned! Cole’s eyes changed and she was frightened but unable to resist or even move – and then he bit her!
Pack enforcer Gabe Madoc was tracking down a stolen enchanted stone. He knew Cole had stolen it. How far was he willing to go to get it back? And how would this affect Cole’s wife, Annie, especially if Cole’s bite was about to change her into something else that she was unprepared for?
The book starts off a bit slow, but raises enough questions that the reader is engrossed and wants to find out more. I did not like Cole at all, which is the author’s intent. So she did a good job in defining the characters and letting the reader feel the correct response to them. The story was good and I recommend it.
I really enjoyed this book. At the beginning it was a bit confusing and it took me awhile to get what was going on, but later in the book its explained more and from then on I got more into the story. The more I kept reading the more absorbed I got into this world. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. L.K Rigel has me wanting more of the other characters story's already!
Gabriel is on a mission to retrieve a special stone and ends up killing an important werewolf. He ends up protecting Annie, the dead werewolf 's human wife. There is love , action in this great story. A lot is focused on Annie's transformation. Fantastic writing and extremely fast paced.
This is the first story that I have read from L.K. Rigel, and it was so interesting. At first it was confusing with all of the terms, but slowly I got the understanding. There are quite a lot of different characters with history and sub plots going on. Annie was written so great, she was a strong female lead. Gabe was also the typical alpha, but in a deep caring way. Even though Gabe was the pack enforcer he was compasionate. I found the villians in the story to be quite interesting. I want to read more of the series to see what happens with everyone. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to read this.
I really enjoyed this story - the plot, the characters, the dialogue, all of it. I liked how the author wove into this story the truth of the Japanese internment camps and how very wrong they were. It was a scary time in US history and I hope it will never be repeated.
But that was just a small part of the story, more background than anything else. The real story was about Annie Belo and every other character was important only insofar as they related to her. Her transformation, in all areas, was exhilarating. Her character was inspiring. It would be difficult not to fall in love with her. Gabe doesn't stand a chance. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a paranormal shifter story with soul mates.
An excellent story from a new to me author. I enjoyed the characters, they were well developed and interesting, even the secondary characters. The plot moved along at a nice steady pace that made it hard to put the book down, in fact I stayed up late to finish the book as I was firmly caught in the novel. I also appreciated that this book developed their relationship, not just jumping them into bed together. Overall, a great story which I look forward to reading the rest of the series. *I received an ARC of this book and I am providing my voluntary and honest opinion.
This book had all the paranormal goodness of wolves, vampires, witches, dragons, and a gryphon to boot, all rolled into one exciting story! The chemistry and sexual tension between Annie and Gabe is electric. The story line is well thought out and moves a pace that keeps you interested. In fact, I had a hard time putting the book down. I liked how all of the characters relate back to Annie in some way. I also liked the twists and turns and the element of surprise is a solid 10 out of 10! I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
*I received a complimentary ARC copy of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary and honest review should I choose to do so.
Wow What a book, could you get anymore in it. It has everything going for it twist, turns, love, hate and more. I could not put the book down.can wait for the next one. Took one day to read. So if you want to know what more, grab your copy, your favorite drink and turn the world off I did and enjoy.
I was greatly suprised with the uniqueness of the world of the Uncanny. The storyline held me captivated, and I am anxious to read the next story in the series. The two main characters Gabe and Annie with this particular book are given a depth and understanding not commonly found in many stories. The supporting characters although are not shown in the same depth we get a great look at what we might expect or at least how they are perceived in upcoming stories. Great read.
My first read from the author but definitly not my last.
If You want a great story with an off-the-charts chemistry (like You find it between Annie and Gabe) than this book is an absolutely must read. It contains humans, shifter packs, wolfes, witches, dragons, gryphon, of course magic, plus struggling with love and suspense. Exactly what every good book needs.
So go ahead and enjoy your reading as much as I did.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was a really good story. I enjoyed the paranormal aspects.. loved the different types of people/shifters/fae/and paranormal plus a dragon which makes me super happy. very interesting storyline.. the writing was awesome and the characters were so much fun to read about i am glad i got to review it
I loved this story and I couldn't put it down. Intrigue, action, sizzling chemistry, magic, dragons, wolves, witches and vampires - all in one book. It has an a great storyline and the characters are very well developed. I can't wait to read the next story. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I loved this book. Werewolves, witches and Dragon shifters what's not to love. I couldn't put this book down and I really hope this book is the start of a series as I feel the author has so much more to offer with the characters she has created. I would definitely give more than five stars if I could Gabriel is a werewolf and an enforcer and he on a mission for his pack to retrieve a dangerous stone, which has been stolen from his alpha by Cole a werewolf from a rival pack. Whilst trailing Cole to find the whereabouts of the stone he realises Cole's human wife is his true mate but Gabe has sworn never to take a mate. Cole's wife Annie isn't aware werewolves exist, yet alone her husband is one. I won't tell you any more as I hate when reviewers give away too much of the story and spoil it for other readers.
I volunteered to read this book and I'm glad I did. In this book we meet Gabriel who is a wolf shifter and the packs enforcer. We meet Annie who owns a mandarin farm and is married to Cole. Cole steals a valuable item and Gabe is sent to investigate since it was stolen from his pack. Gabe lays eyes on Annie and feels a bond to her immediately, but she's married. What's happens to Cole, Gabe and Annie read the book and find out it's a great read. This is one of the first books of LK Rigel's that I have read and I'm so glad I did, her writing style is amazing and very flowing, I can't wait to read the next book. Would I recommend this book YES
This is a great story, there are twists and turns galore. There are a lot of characters in the book, but I was surprised at how easy it was to keep up with everything going on.
There is excitement, paranormal creatures, and frankly some touching scenes. I was not sure at the very beginning if it was my cup of tea, but I am so glad I carried on, I was unable to put it down and read it all in one hit.
This is the first book by this author that I have read, but now I am a huge fan. It is a compelling story, well written and I will definitely be reading more books by this author
I found the story to be slow going at first but am really glad that I persevered because once it took off it did so at speed. I found the book to be well written and it had its loveable characters and characters that had your eyes rolling as well as the one's you just have to dislike. It has its fair share of uncanny beings
