Fascinating story of a Rock Island gangster. Being a Quad City resident my whole life, I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot of things I didn't know about our local history!

The life and times of John Patrick Looney - Rock Island Illinois' very own gangster. Looney lived his rein of terror and died in the 1920's. Living in the vicinity it is interesting to see what buildings and descendants are still in this area. His home still sits where he built it - the outside still looks the same. Short book of local history - very interesting. Well worth the read for a local factual story.

So excited to finally read this local, non- fiction account of the gangster life of John Looney. He ran a crime syndicate here in Davenport & Rock Island for many years. Very in-depth reports, and it was really neat to look up the addresses & see what they are today. It's hard to believe that back in the early 1900s, we were the Las Vegas of the US. Highly recommend to those who live here in and around the Quad Cities and those who like to read about gangsters in the early 20th century

This is the true story of John Looney, crime boss in Rock Island, Illinois in the teens and twenties, upon whom Paul Newman's character in "Road to Perdition" was based. The writing is so-so, but the story is fascinating. Now I want to go to the Quad Cities and visit the places that are still standing.
