ARE YOU SABOTAGING YOUR RELATIONSHIPS? Finding the person you want to spend your life with is one of the biggest decisions you'll ever make, and the fear of choosing poorly can paralyze you into inaction or emotional unavailability. In The Ineligible Bachelorette, Starr Burroughs shares the ways single women allow insecurity, impossible expectations, fear, or a lack of self-awareness to keep them from dating the type of men worth marrying. She breaks down these different challenges and helps you take a hard look at the ways you may be sabotaging potential relationships. She highlights the godly traits you should be looking for in men and offers permission to give guys you might otherwise overlook a chance. Drawing inspiration from her own story, and those of her friends, she shares her personal insights and experiences. This book is full of tough love, while still rooting for the reader to successfully navigate the bumpy road toward marriage. You will feel encouraged and empowered to overcome roadblocks that may be keeping you from God's plan for your life.
First of all, it's "lite". Fluffy. Skims over some BIG ideas and ignores the depth that real wrestling would require.
But, also. There's some solid concepts. If you're a female, 25+, and wanting to get married, reading this might be helpful. YMMV
Probably my biggest takeaway was that it's fully within a woman's place to actively seek friendships with eligible men, while pursuit of a romantic relationship is the man's responsibility. This frees us up to enjoy and appreciate friendships without worrying about whether there's a possibility of a romantic relationship.
Sometimes these kind of books come across as preachy or cheesy. Boroughs has an upbeat yet realistic tone. She asks women to take a hard look at themselves to identify roadblocks to dating and marriage. She also exposes the unrealistic expectations Christian women can place on themselves and the men they date as contributing to relationship failure. Would definitely recommend this book to any lady in this state of life.
I bought this book last month but for some reason I could not begin reading it yet. Last night, I decided to start reading it and I must say that it is indeed timely. I believe the author understands the season of singleness and the frustration that accompanies it for many of us. I would definitely recommend this book and will read it a second time.
