Cheryl Aguiar resides in the coastal town of Westport, Massachusetts where she is currently a self-employed small business owner. Cheryl and her husband Jim live in a quaint country cabin-style home designed and built by themselves in the very same woods where she once explored as a child. Besides running her Beauty Salon, she still enjoys exploring nature, traveling the country, and photographing our beautiful landscapes and captivating wildlife. Cheryl and Jim travel whenever possible, including visiting land they own in New Vineyard, Maine, which has acres of woods and mountains to explore. Since early childhood, Cheryl has had a strong connection and admiration for Mother Nature and all her fascinating wildlife. Jim has since nicknamed her Pocahontas, claiming she has a special gift when it comes to wild animals. "She gains their trust almost immediately, he says. It is quite amazing to see.” While exploring the amazing beauty that surrounds us, she began uncovering her talents and suddenly felt driven to pursue learning the art of photography by becoming a self-taught photographer. Her passion and entrepreneurial spirit then grew from just a simple walk in the woods and some picture taking, to a sequence of events that would changed her life forever. She came across a family of Great Horned Owls, nesting in a tall pine tree in her woods. Her experience with this owl family opened windows of opportunity that she had never dreamed of before. Cheryl wanted the rest of the world to hear her story of how these amazing, majestic birds showed such compassion in ways that most people would never get a chance to see or even hear about. She then taught herself how to compose, format and self publish her own book, sharing the encounter with one of Mother Nature's most fierce predators. Since then, she has thoroughly enjoyed the overwhelming appreciation from her readers and continues to self-promote her first book, sharing her story to wildlife lovers and nature gurus all over the world. Cheryl is continuing to evolve her passion for nature and has begun her next chapter into the care and rehabilitation of wildlife. A second book about her experiences is certainly in her future, so be sure to follow Cheryl's journey!

You can tell from my blog that I LOVE owls. There is something very magical about them. I have always been fascinated with birds, since I was very little. My love of owls is, however, a bit newer. It was when I saw an owl in the wild for the very first time that the love of owls began. When you see an owl, in its natural surroundings, it is a humbling experience. I live in the city, but there are woods near by and I can hear owls hooting back and forth very late at night into the early morning. It is one of my all time favorite nature sounds, ever!!! Now onto the book...

It is a short book, but it is filled with heart. You will not help but be pulled into the story of this owl family...cheering them on and willing them to survive their struggles. Filled with pictures of the fuzzy and adorable owl family the story of the great horned owlets rescue will be one that will fill your heart with sheer joy because in the end it is about the human/animal bond that allows for amazing results. I am so totally in love with this story

In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous. Aristotle

Since I know the author, I expected a "Pocahontas" (Cheryl's nickname) story that kids could relate to.
I was surprised by Cheryl's detailed description of the owlets' rescue, their stages of development, and their recovery. Even more astounding was Cheryl's natural affinity for the birds and their affinity for her. The photos were a great addition to the story and I hope with professional editing Cheryl is able to reconstruct the book to make it suitable for young children.
