There are SO many fantastic train books out there, but what I like about Railways & Trains is that it not only has all the important historical trains and how steam & diesel engines work, but lots of information on how the railroads, bridges, and tunnels were built. It talks about things that no other train books we’ve read have mentioned, like the purpose behind the different kinds of wheels and gauges of the tracks. This book is 28 years old now, but if you know someone who is interested in trains then you should definitely seek it out at the library.
This is a great book to keep in your classroom to let children look at during free reading time. This book can also be used as a resource, if the child chooses to write about trains they can use this book to learn facts about trains. This would be a great book for children to explore, every time they open it they will find something new.
