Smashed Nuts:

Rate this book
Ever wondered what enough alcohol to preserve a dead wallaby and sixteen hundred kilos of German engineering have in common?

Brenda finds out the hard way while navigating the murky waters of dating a married man in late-seventies Australia. But is continuing to see Hilton worth risking life and limb over? Yes, if it’s the only thing between her, a decent meal and not living in her car.

Okay, so he’s not the only thing stopping her from being hungry and homeless, but then working as a Surfers Paradise Meter Maid to make ends meet hadn’t been high on her list of life goals either. She’s fine with strutting around town in a gold lamé bikini, tiara and sash, but doing so while wearing high heels has her feet crying for relief.

Their prayers, and hers, are about to be answered, and for once her soles and soul are in agreement.

Smashed Nuts is a standalone prequel to the Excess Baggage Series and contains no spoilers. It's a fast-paced read with laughs aplenty that will appeal to fans of Janet Evanovich and MaryJanice Davidson and is the perfect antidote to the stresses of everyday life. Think of it as the Serotonin of the literary world.

Andrene, or Andie as her cozy mystery readers know her, has a love of writing instilled in her by her mum. Irreverent, cutting and reflecting her background as a stand-up comic, her women's fiction in particular is edgy with humour that can be dark in places. Don't be fooled into thinking her horror novel, DietVale, under the pen name Sydney Hunter is dark, dark, dark.

I went into this book knowing it was only a short prequel. I knew that when I bought it. That doesn't mean that I'm happy about it being so short! GIVE ME MORE! I want more stories about being a meter maid wearing a gold bikini. I want more close calls. I want more disastrous liaisons. Damn it, I wanted this to be a longer book. It's too good to be so short.
Funny, nostalgic, but too short... ;)

This book was a crack up! It's a good quick read leading into the Sexy Seventies Series, which I will definitely be checking out!

Smashed Nuts tells the story of Brenda, a gold-lame bikini clad meter maid who wants the good life. She has an interesting way of going about obtaining that, but it makes for a great story! A married man, a wife who doesn't like to share, car chases, nudity, and a stand off - what more could you ask for?

Lots of laughs from the Antics of a poor young woman who wants the good life and has a unique idea on how to get it without doing boring jobs. Life doesn't go to plan though. A fast paced short read. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
