Helping children make the transition between Reception and Year One is a challenge. When done well it can have a significant impact on children's emotional and academic development, but when done badly it can set some children's development back by up to a year. Alistair Bryce-Clegg is determined to help practitioners conquer this challenge. Having been involved in a number of transition projects that specifically focus on children's emotional, social and academic development throughout this period, Alistair draws upon his experiences in this new book. Packed full of practical ideas to help practitioners to plan for and create an effective learning environment, that promotes high levels of attainment in Year One based on the effective principles of EYFS practice, this book should be an essential in any Reception and Year One teacher's library.
Sounds amazing but in reality (i.e. my context) will probably me so much more different - 4*
I love the ideas of this and I think the pedagogy behind this is deeply rooted in experience and children's development. Due to my context and the demands of the Y1 curriculum, I don't think it will all be possible but it has definitely given me a lot to think about.
Makes absolute sense! Really interesting & great for cpd especially if like me, you have moved down to year 1 & are trying to introduce enquiry based learning. Play is not a bolt on is my new mantra!
I love Mr ABC! A great book explaining how best for reception children to move seamlessly into Yr1. A book that needs to be read by all KS1 teachers & their SLT. Some fantastic ideas & I love how Alistair acknowledges the ‘bad’ things he used to do that we are often actively encouraged to still do.
An insightful book about the transition from EYFS into Year One, reinforcing the importance of taking into account what child development research tells us on how children learn and the practice which should be continued and carried over into Year One settings.
