Johnny Slade wasn't looking for a vacation, nor was he looking for love. A nomad, a journalist, an activist, a man who wants to change things for others even if he couldn't for himself, Johnny was just looking for his next story.

Shane Moore lost a chance at college, but he's never been weighed down by his lot in life. Working for his grandmother, helping his injured single father on the ranch, these are things that fulfill him. But now he wonders what his future might hold. Especially since everyone else is moving on around him.

But things happen in Abernathy, TX. Johnny gets stranded, Shane's desire to help this guy who blew his mind is strong. After a few weeks in their own bubble of sex and surprising mutual interest, one will find home, the other will find adventure, and both will find that the future is most fun when you stop trying to hold on to your own way.

Warning: a big biker queen who's as fearless as not, a country boy who's not as shy as he seems, and a few old Texas friends to push them in the right direction.

Kade Boehme is the epitome of dorkdom, only watching TV when Rachel Maddow or one of his sports teams is on. Most of his free time is spent dancing, arguing politics or with his nose in a book. He is also a hardcore Britney Spears fangirl and has an addiction to glitter.

It was after writing a short story about boys who loved each other for a less than reputable adult website that he found his true calling, and hopefully a bit more class. He hopes to write about all the romance that he personally finds himself allergic to but that others can fall in love with. He maintains that life is real and the stories should be, as well.

This was sweet !!! Warm, fluffy and adorable- really made me smile. Shane was the all round good guy, looked after his injured father, his grandmother and the ranch. He worked his ass to the bone and watched life pass him by as he wondered about the life he could have had. Along comes Johnny Slade, the drifter reporter who couldn't lay roots anywhere and found reasons to keep moving on. He turns up in the small Texas town and from the first moment is smitten with Shane. Circumstances occur and Shane is forced to spend two weeks in town - what a difference these days make, for both Johnny & Shane. I enjoyed the slow burn / low angst vibe in this book. I read it from beginning to end - I just wanted to know how it all worked out. This is a happy book that reminds people, don't judge others and be kind ! Well done Kade ❤

Slade is the start of Kade Boehme's latest series. It's the story of 23-year-old Shane who passed on college to help his family, and Slade, a 32-year-old reporter who got stuck in Abernathy, TX while his bike gets fixed.

My highlights:

-Shane and Johnny. Both men were loyal and loving. There was almost a calming quality to them especially Shane. I could see why his family relied on him so much.

-Relationship. I love relationships that start casual and grow into more. Shane and Slade's relationship began as a tentative friendship that would blossom into more.

-Narration. The story was told from both men's POV.

-Supporting cast. They added to the story and were fleshed out.

-Slow burn.

-Low angst.

My only niggle was that I would've liked for the story to be longer. Since I finished reading it, I have learned there's a second book in the works. Yay! Should be out this summer. Now don't worry about reading this - it doesn't end on a cliffhanger. It concludes with a sweet HFN that'll get you eager for the next installment.

Do I recommend it? I do. I always enjoy Kade’s slice of life stories; they’re a nice break from reality and make me smile.

4.25 -I- NEED- BOOK- TWO- Stars!

*** Handsome, bighearted Shane, 23, seems stuck in his hometown.

Every time he thought of going to college, something happened at home to keep him there. When a stranger comes to town, he captures Shane's attention.
Slade is an olive skinned, tattooed, 30ish journalist,

and becomes stranded in the small town when someone ruins his motorcycle.

Generous Shane offers their guest quarters on the ranch while he waits for the bike to be fixed. The sparks fly and they go up in flames, when these two get together. Each man knows this is temporary, because Slade will need to get back to work, but the men figure it's worth it to have a fling, rather than miss out on all of that hotness.

We love our characters immediately, as realistic men, both falling short of their potential. Situations change and choices are made. We are riveted; wanting to know how they will work out their deep feelings and responsibilities.

It's a wonderful story by the amazing writer, Kade Boehme.
There's no cheating, there is super hot sex, and a HFN.
ENJOY !

Slade is a fairly good story, though I'm not loosing my mind over it. It had a few issues that kept me from rating higher but in general it was a nice and easy read.

The fact that the MCs' names are so much alike bothered me at the beginning because I had to think about who was who. Fortunately, after the first few chapters Slade got refered to as Johnny so that issue was fixed.

However, the errors, typos, missing words, double words weren't fixed. And there were a lot of them. One or two errors is no big deal, it's understandable that something's bound to get under the radar, but here there were lot more than two and I was reading the finished book which is why I'm mentioning it.

Ok, on to the story now. This is a light read, low on the angst and perfect for a relaxing afternoon. We have two strangers starting a friendship and a relationship in a small town in Texas. They got close each for their own reasons. One out of loneliness and the other out of necessity. The attraction between them was instant but nothing would have happened if Slade hadn't found himself stuck in the town for two weeks with nothing to do and no way to leave.

Slade is a drifter, a traveler. He doesn't have a home-base even though he owns a house. He's constantly on the road chasing his next story and he doesn't do well with commitment or relationships in general.

Shane is very family-oriented. He had family obligations and he put his life on pause in order to help his father and his grandmother. He was in a rut and he wasn't aware of it until Slade entered his life.

Shane's dad was a surprise. He was supportive and loving even though he had his own way of showing it. He was the most constant secondary character in the story though there were other people crossing paths with the MCs too.

Another thing that bothered me was that sometimes I got lost in the dialogues and I didn't know what they were talking about even if I backtracked a bit and reread the whole conversation. That was frustrating.

The book is the first one in a series with the next one featuring the same MCs so we're leaving them with a nice HFN and the promise to see them again in the future. I'll most likely read the second part of their story because I liked the characters, but I sure hope the next book doesn't have so many typos.

I enjoyed this one. I don't know if it's because I read a couple books back to back that I did not enjoy but this was a breath of fresh air for me.
Slade meets Shane in a small town he's stopping through while working and what was supposed to be a quick stay turns into three weeks. What's supposed to be a hook up of convenience for both men turns into something much more.
Both Mc's are nice guys with different situations and issues in their lives that hinder them from wanting more for themselves. Their relationship is easy and progresses nicely. There is no magic moment where they declare their love for each other and forget their prior commitments and goals. No they go on with their lives as expected but that doesn't mean that there isn't longing and some version of regret.
It takes time, which is something a lot of M/M novels take for granted, but the MC's come together again to give it a go. Oh and the sexy times were hot.

A couple of things I didn't like. I feel like we were told a lot about their communications with each other but we weren't shown it on the page and the HEA for me was not a strong one. Overall it was good. 3.5 rounded up.

That was nice.

I love how it read as a complete book but we are getting more.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure how it was going to play out. Distance is a bitch. I'm happy with where the story is going and am very anxious for what is next.

Guest appearances are always welcome :)

Another one that sat on my TBR for years. A little farfetched but still an entertaining romance. I feel a Part Two is in order. Too bad it was never published as far as I can tell.

A sexy read about Johnny Slade, a reporter / biker queen who ends up spending three weeks in a small Texas town (his Harley needs repairs) and Shane, who works on his family ranch and at his grandmother's store. They have hot dirty friends-with-benefits sex which neither man expects to turn into something more, but things don't go according to plan. I liked this story - good low-angst plot, interesting characters, amazing sex. My only complaint was that the book needed some editing - there were several run-on sentences that made absolutely no sense.

You won't find too many biker queen in books.
But Kade Boehme made Johnny Slade one of the best biker queen, and Shane agreed with that.
From the blurb, you think Shane is a shy one?
Nu-uh...read this book, and see yourself.
Can't wait for the next... Shane!
Well done, princess!

Another captivating story from Kade Boehme. I loved these two guys. Shane was a nice guy who gave up his dreams for his family. He felt stuck. Then a stranger on a motorcycle appeared, a hot stranger.

The man's hazel eyes were the first thing Shane noticed, with their smile lines and unmistakable intelligence. Shane had to blink so he wouldn't stare. They were pretty, but plain. But still, something about them made Shane want to get lost in them.

Their meeting was electric. Johnny came back in the evening because he had sensed something about the "Cowboy".

"...I wanted to see you smile. You looked like you needed to smile." He pressed another kiss to Shane's mouth, though quicker this time. Then he turned and walked back to the motel, leaving Shane stupefied and staring.

It was wonderful to read a story about two big MCs and enjoy their interaction. This was a story about good people who needed love. It is the kind of story that you cannot wait to get to the end and yet are sorry the story is over.

I enjoyed this, but the time jumps threw me. Not just the weeks later jumps, but the little jumps in the story. Kind of brought me out of the story, since I had to re-read parts.

I liked Slade and Shane. I even liked Shane's dad :) He was kind of a hoot.

This was nice and fluffy and just what I needed, at the time. Nice to see the cameos ;)

I needed this book, at this time, more than anyone will ever know. Never have I loved two characters more than Johnny and Shane. They made me laugh, they made me cry and they made me want to bang their heads together  to finally see what's right in front of them could be pretty special. Two men who are both trying to find where they belong. Slade, always on the move looking for the next story. No commitments, no attachments, leading a lonely existence. Shane, afraid to leave his home and family to finally live the life he's always wanted. Sometimes, you have to take care of you first before everything else falls into place. Not a lot of angst, some hot and sexy scenes and a HFN ending. Doesn't get any better than that!

“I knew when I looked at you that you were more than meets the eye.”
“And I knew from the moment I saw you that you were fuckin’ trouble.”

This book surprised me! Not that I expected it to be bad because I definitely didn't but it was just so many more things than I expected but it's a welcomed surprise!
This was sweet and filthy where it was also cute and feely!

“Smart and a real cowboy,” Slade said. “You just get sexier and sexier.”

Johnny Slade isn't looking for home, isn't looking for anything permanent, he's looking for his next job, the next story. But finds himself battling what he wants when he gets stuck in a little town in Texas and finds the potential of something permanent, in Shane.
Shane has dedicated himself to his home and his family while putting his needs and wants on the back burner, but when Slade is thrown into his life, something inside Shane comes alive and his need to go after what he wants battles with his love for home and family.

I loved both heroes. So much. Slade took a little longer to understand but eventually I fell in love with him and got him. He's cocky, unapologetic, has a love for inappropriately hilarious T-shirts and even if he refuses to admit it, he's romantic AF in his own way.
Shane. OMG. He is literally the cutest. He's just so kind, honest, and selfless, even to the point he suffers for it. But it's just his heart. And THENNNN, then, shameless Shane comes out to play. Like, damn. Wasn't expecting that but holy hell I loved it. So did Slade. Just saying.
I adored the dynamic between these two. They were so hot together but just as sweet.
Each had to do a little growing and choices to make before they got to that HEA, I was really surprised how feely this got but I loved it. It added so much more depth to their relationship.

“And you take a risk next time someone makes you want to stay.”

I'd love to visit them again in the future because I'd absolutely read another book about these two and their friends and family because Kade has written a well rounded set of lovable and brilliant characters in a lovely subtle way.

My only problem was the constant use of their names, 'He'/'Him' could have easily been used in substitute in many places but I really loved this one.

I really enjoyed this one. I like Kade's style of writing, it's relaxed and generally low on the angst or drama for the sake of drama front.
This one was a sweet little story about a guy who gets stuck in a small Texas town when his beloved Harley is damaged and who comes to discover that running away from "home" isn't always what your heart really wants - it all depends on what's home.

Shane finds Johnny Slade irresistible but he's been looking after his dad and his gran's store instead of risking going away to college and he fights the uncertainty of giving life - and love - a chance until his family give him the freedom to try out his wings and fly the nest.

I loved that Shane's dad West wasn't a typical small town southern homophobe as can often be the trope in this setting. He was supportive of his son and aware his injury and long recovery had played a big part in Shane not leaving town after finishing up school. He also wasn't anti-Johnny, in fact he played the matchmaker on the downlow and it was really cute to read.

Johnny Slade was a roamer, a journalist always looking for the next big story (been there, done that!), he wasn't looking to find love in a tiny backwater and he was also afraid to go home as his relationship with his father wasn't close.
There wasn't any hate there either, again nice to read, more a case of finding nothing in common once Johnny's mother had died. But when his father fell ill and he went home, Johnny finds the idea of settling down isn't quite so daunting when the right person is willing to be there with you.

The book was mediocre. I am sure the guys were hot, at least they were in my mind. The writer could have spent more time on the "slow burn" aspect with more descriptions of the main characters. I am also a firm believer that lots of sex in a book is because the plot is weak. In "Slade", there is some plot and some sex but neither is anything to write home about. You can't just say that the sex was the best sex of his life (how so?). Also, the correct phrase is "I couldn't care less". The writer inflicts us with "I could care less", several times...which means I care (but it could be less), which isn't what the character meant to say.

The grammar, for the most part, was pretty good. The story was okay. Will I read it again, probably not. The characters could have been fleshed out (a good example was the grandmother, that plays a vital role in the book, doesn't show up until the very end). If the main character is to end up in New York, why is there no warning, no foreshadowing? The book just felt rushed.

WOW!
This was yet another amazing and beautiful read from Kade which i absolutely LOVED!
I though Johnny & Shane were fantastically written characters and loved the fact that instead of one of them being "twinkish" they were both pretty equal. Something else I loved was that Slade is a biker, big and burly, BUT he's quite a walking contradiction too. His humour and T-Shirts really prove that!
An absolutely amazing read!

This was quite enjoyable. I enjoyed watching them go from just sex, to friends, and finally to more. Shane was such a sweetheart. Johnny gave the impression of a badass that knew where he was going, but he didn't realize what he was really looking for could be found with Shane.

Oh my word, Author Kade Boehme! One of my found treasures of 2017, this is a new to me, new favorite, author!. This is my first book by author Boehme and absolutely won't be my last. 4.5****
Shane should be in college but instead, like the all-around good guy that he is, he stayed behind to run the store for his recently widowed grandmother and to run the farm for his injured father. His best friend Travis moved on, left town and hasn't looked back with excuses instead of visits. Shane is taking care of everyone but himself when a big, bearded, biker-looking guy, probably 6'2" and thick, came in to the store. Shane was assessing the situation, the guy when he noticed his t-shirt "Ask this queen where you can shove your guns". I guess that answered one question. Day-dream material at least. As Shane was leaving the store a little later he saw the big guy waiting outside. Johnny Slade introduced himself and then pulled Shane and kissed him.
Johnny Slade was a roving reporter, a rolling stone gathering absolutely no moss, who spent very little time in his Philadelphia home. Johnny is in town for a job that is suddenly cancelled and plans to leave when someone wrecks his motorcycle and he is stuck there waiting for repairs. Shane invites Johnny to stay on the ranch in a small furnished room, while he waits for the repairs on his bike and you can consider the rest.
This author describes characters that are real and not all sporting cleft chins and 8-packs. They are raw and dirty, strong and sexy.
Shane was working himself to the bones but really 'hadn't realized he'd been in a rut until he started climbing out of it" and until Johnny showed him that there was a way out. The author uses words that evoke emotions .. "grasping hands and rutting and grunting, and it was artless, and it was animal. It was exactly how it should be.". He describes the hard, tattooed, biker Johnny as "a big burly biker with a soft and gooey center' who was a fearless advocate..."
I loved this story and will absolutely read more by this talented author!

Damn did I like this book.

Shane, just a city boy trying to do right by his family, works in his grandma's store and that's where he runs into city boy Johnny Slade for the first time.

Shane’s gaze flicked away quickly, but with the practiced inconspicuousness every queer boy raised in a small town had learned from the moment his pecker pointed in the direction of another boy instead of girls.

Shane was freaking ADORABLE. I loved him so much but both characters, while somewhat predictable when you learn they're a city boy and a country boy, were phenominal.

The sexy parts happened pretty quick but damn was I surprised when they did.

“I’ve been running and running, trying to work off this fucking hard-on I’ve got for you,” Johnny rumbled in Shane’s ear before sucking in the lobe. Shane let out a quiet, deep moan as Johnny slid his hand further down until the tips of his fingers just brushed the base of Shane’s cock, which was fucking rigid. He flexed his hips trying to make those damn fingers touch him.

Shane in the bedroom was a complete 180 from the Shane we met and I LIVED for that. It was fucking amazing. I loved that they were two big men too, the way Shane describes Johnny made me fan myself.

But, no matter how much I loved the sex in this book, their moments together were so sweet I was smiling almost the entire time.

You can’t fall in love in a little over two weeks, Johnny didn’t think, but with a guy like Shane Moore and over two weeks of constant contact, mind blowing sex, and feeling like you had found a little piece of home you hadn’t had in a long damn time… It was scary close to realizing you could love them eventually.

There wasn't a whole lot of angst in this one, outside of the typical city boy/country boy dilemmas. It was a quick and fun read!

Shane needs to stay. Slade needs to go.
There's basically no sense in making plans; yet, both can't but think about what might be possible.

Writing style?
Good. Def. enjoyed reading it.
There were some mistakes, though. Typos mostly so nothing that bothered me too much. Probably except for this one scene in which it said Shane instead of Johnny.

Plot?
Great.
There was a bit of suspense; the direction and the ending were fairly clear, sure, but I had no idea what would happen to get there.
I liked the whole trope of I-want-to-leave-but-kinda-also-want-to-stay.

Characters?
Both really awesome guys. There's a bit of an age difference but that only made their chemistry more sizzling.
Johnny's this tough journalist who is keen on investigating and putting people on the spot. He's also got this biker/bad boy look but there's much more than what meets the eye.
Same's true for Shane. He looks like your typical bird who can't leave his nest but I think it just showed his level of commitment to his family and his sense of loyalty.

All in all, definitely worth recommending.
