The High Price I Had To Pay, Volume IV, is a captivating real-life story about the travails of Brandi Davis, a young, single mother, who entered the drug game after the sudden death of her child's father, a notorious drug dealer. As the girlfriend of a well-known member of the infamous Black Mafia Family (BMF) organization, Davis was showered with a lavish lifestyle that she was unwilling to give up so easily. Feeling as though her back was against the wall, determined to stay afloat, she accepted an invitation to enter the drug game.
As the daughter of a legendary hustler, Davis was no novice to street life. She quickly integrated her business savvy and prominent drug connections, skyrocketing to the top of the drug under-world in her area. All was well, until she was set up! With the help of a few informants, her empire swiftly came crumbling down, landing her a 10 year bid in federal prison.
This cautionary tale reveals the shocking truths of those who enter the drug game in America, and the harsh penalties they face. Is a decade plus sentence necessary to punish a young mother, who became a product of the game? Or, is there a better way to level the scales of justice in America? You be the judge!
Brandi Davis shares her glamorous life that people dream of but gain riches illegally, eventually, all goes downhill. I would have loved if she dug deeper (or expound on) and gave more insight of her experiences as a drug dealer's wifey, father-daughter relationship as a drug lord (is it similar to "The Coldest Winter Ever"), and prison life to a restored citizen. It does allow the reader to see the materialistic-superficial lifestyle of a drug dealer's girl and how she takes the bid for her man; but she does shares how those closest to her betrays her. This is expected in illegal activities--betrayal, illicit gains, jealousy, etc. And more importantly, when someone spends time behind bars, loses those they love and unable to do anything.
Overall, it was a simple, short, and easy read. I appreciate Ms. Davis taking the time to share her life experience(s). I have two other books of the 4 part "High Price to Pay" series.
*I became interested in the book because she was featured on female felons on Iyanla Vanzant show (OWN Network), and then saw her on BET Her's From the Bottom Up. Most of the episodes I saw on "From the Bottom Up", she has a very small segment on the reality show; however, she reminds me of my youngest sis in so many ways.
Ms. Davis story is all to common, unfortunately, for a lot of young Detroit women. I believe that her story will help so many lost souls. Her resiliency will continue to be a beacon of light for those who have lost their way. Thank you for being obedient to Allah and sharing your story to help others. May Allah continue to bless you and your family. From one D girl to another. Blessings!
Being from Detroit, this was a good book. To be able to hear about things that were going on when I was a kid. I'm glad she opened up about how good the life was but how bad it became and the dangers of being involved in such a fast life. The people right under her betrayed her but that's what really happens!
I saw her on TrapQueens she changed her life and she sold drugs with her father, and she could be anything she wants but she grew up in that lifestyle. Her boyfriend died and she took great care of her son, now she sells cars. If she can sell drugs , she can sell anything
