Read at the request of a friend.

While McDermott's basic premise -- that people generally eat too many carbohydrates and there are negative health consequences from that -- is valid, the way she tries to make that argument is flawed and lacking in support/citations. The author also makes some audacious claims throughout and recommends dietary practices that are not supported by practice or research. In addition, she makes arguments that contradict herself, such as stating early in the book that the body needs to stay at a neutral pH but then later encouraging people to engage in dietary practices that can lead to blood acidosis.

In all, the book simply seemed a quickly thrown-together plug for the author's own paid program, which unsurprisingly, you have to purchase to learn more about.
