Draws on medical and psychological studies to discuss the impact of prayer on stress, emotional wellness, and a range of physical disorders, offering practical steps for implementing effective prayer to enhance the connections between the spirit, body, and mind.
Unfortunately, this one fell way short of it’s proposed premise. While there was a lot in this book about what prayer is, it actually said very little about how it connects to your health. As the chapters went on I kept expecting more than a simple “how to” book on prayer; but it never turned the corner. Disspointing.
I liked the overall message of this book, and was impressed by the data collected from various scientific studies of the overall effect of prayer. On finishing the book, however, I felt the odd sense that something was lacking, though I couldn't pinpoint what. I also was puzzled by the author's confidence that prayer was better than meditation. How does he know this? Also, there is a long history of Christian meditation that he doesn't discuss.
This book was unique amongst its genre for its clear distinction between each of human flesh, human mind and human spirit. In particular, a stilling of the human flesh and human mind is sought so that the spirit can communicate with God (who is spirit) with the Holy Spirit interceding (Rom 8:26).
Spirit communicating with SPIRIT with intercession of Holy Spirit. A quintessential spiritual experience!
While much of the information presented in this book is not new, and the message is one we have all heard before, I appreciated the scientific and medical studies that were cited as evidence of prayer's healing power, as well as the suggested format for organized prayer. I came away feeling reenergized to refresh my prayer habits.
