Extremely thorough while also extremely concise

I use this book to supplement my Chinese language learning via reading novels. It does a great job of explaining grammatical patterns, both common and uncommon, in a clear and concise manner. With each piece of information the author provides, around 5-10 examples follow it to help you understand. Sometimes the explanations can be very technical but the examples help clear up any doubts. This book acts as both a great learning tool and a great reference book for potentially obscure or uncommon uses.

This book provides a very clear explanation of Chinese grammar with a descriptive approach to the everyday use of the language. The examples are complete with pinyin and literal translation for easy understanding.

There is an added bonus in that I picked up some things that I can use in my translation work. You see, the book is written for an English-speaking audience, so it highlights the differences in characteristics between Chinese and English. Because Chinese and Indonesian are similar in certain aspects, some of the discussions can be applied to Indonesian, too.
