"A Great Story For Young And Old"
I really enjoyed this story written by Stuart Reid and the very nice illustrations provided by Calvin Innes. And it is well edited by Linda Innes. This story is about a small British town, Little Pumpington, that has a large power plant providing electricity to the town. The 3P's Power Plant was founded by three very greedy, controlling men, one of which the partners Mr. Peabody and Mr. Prickly decide to do away with the third partner. Greed reigns and after a few decades, the management/ownership falls onto the sole heir, Petunia, married to Mr. Watt. She is no better than her predecessors and becomes very greedy by developing an environmentally friendly plant, even while being an unpopular teacher at school. Young George Hansen one night is enjoying the cool air coming through his open bedroom window. He sees two dark-clothed men step out of neighbor Mr. Swan's home carrying a large black bag. A note was found letting the paperboy know that he was off to Florida. Soon, George, called "Gorgeous" George by many at school, and his grandfather get a little naughty by leaving an obnoxious gift on the porch of the Watts. And before long, a message is found at the home of his grandfather saying he was off to Scotland. George's new friend at school is Allison, who joins George in solving the mystery of the disappearance of Grandpa Jock. This is a very suspenseful mystery that I enjoyed reading as I think many young people will enjoy reading as well. The story is well told and pulls the reader right along from page to page rapidly. The pace is vigorous, the storyline is very engaging, and there are many twists and turns. Highly recommend.
