I bought this book in the visitor center of Zion Canyon in Utah. It is written for elementary students and has an excellent glossary. I am interested in children's literature and on the lookout for new books to recommend to my students. This is a very well written account of a fearless explorer, patriot, and dedicated scientist. I have to admit that i did know the story of this man's many accomplishments and look forward to seeing the Grand Canyon someday. An exciting and worh while read for all ages

John Wesley Powell only had one arm when he explored the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. He was a manly man! I really enjoyed this quick biography about his life. He was a brilliant and brave man. His expeditions were dangerous, and he went through it all with one arm!
When my students complain- I will bring him up as an example!
