Having a pet is fun but taking care of it is a big responsibility. And when your pet falls ill and needs you, you will have to take some tough decisions. Allie Kay learns all this and more when she gets her first pet, Moebus.
My First Pet is a good book that talks about childhood experiences. When the character in this story narrated the book, she already have her own family but she kept her journal from when she was 7 years old. She also advised the reader to get their own journal notebook because she said, "as you grow, you can read it and your imagination will magically send you back in time." This book talks about a girl who’s been wanting to have a pet since she was a child but her mom kept saying no. Eventually, she won her first fish pet when they went to the carnival. Days gone by, she noticed that there’s something wrong with the fish so she decided to go to her neighbor’s house to ask questions about her pet. The neighbor gave her a bigger fish to take care of in exchange of the smaller gold fish she have. Noticing that there’s something wrong to her pet made the character pay more attention to what’s going on with her surroundings.
I read this with Anjali the girl I tutor three days a week. She was attracted to this book because of the title. The storyline seemed a bit predictable, to be honest. These books don't seem to have much originality or character to them.
