The multi-layered story about Lutomer and Lutavah comes to a conclusion in this book. Their father's junior wife, the former Arab slave Zamilya has employed a vile sorceress to try and remove her husband's eldest son and his sister. After she fails to poison Lutomer, she manages to get her husband possessed so he can send his son away and organises (via the sorceress) to get Lutavah betrothed to another prince.
The siblings are not so easily beaten and what follows is a determined effort of both siblings to get rid of all the evil brought upon by Zamilya's insistence that her son should inherit the princedom. The biggest issues for me were actions that I wasn't sure took place either in the Neyav (the mystical world) or in the Yav (real world). A fair amount of time was spent wondering if Lutavah is communicating with her brother mystically or directly.
A decent follow-up to the story that started with book 1.
