This is the first Ruskin Bond book I read and I am delighted to find a new favorite author. The seven stories would have been poetry if the words rhymed. But nobody would want to make the words rhyme because they are beautiful and dreamy as it is. Ruskin Bond makes us travel to scenic corners of the world - from places as regular as a stream created from a leaking tap to the orchards of a hill station. There's equal beauty in all and without doubt I would want to revisit them through the beautiful words of Ruskin Bond.
Not exactly stories, but the observations, thoughts, and memories of the writer about nature around him. People who like Ruskin Bond's books will find the stories mesmerizing and somewhat insightful. But for others, it may seem like random ramblings.
The short stories are nice and sweet and take you to your childhood days which we all miss today. Doesn't require much time to read and at the end you just feel there wereca few more of them.
Stories that make you fall in love with nature and its beauty, especially the one in the mountains.
My rating: 4.5/5 A collection of nice and sweet stories which take you to your childhood days and make you nostalgic. We all miss those carefree days when there's nothing to do but observe and absorb the beauty of nature, but sadly most of us don't have the time to do this. These stories make us miss all those moments.
A forest stream without ferns would be like a maiden whose loveliest tresses have been shron". This novel is full of short stories which connects us more to the nature.
It explains about Beautiful nature we have like you are standing in the middle of nature and exploring, experiencing it by yourself, smiling at the first ray of sunshine.
" The moment when we feel deeply moved or inspired, moments when time seems to stand still... They come but rarely, as small miracles , like the fragrance of the first summer ram on parched earth, or the song of the whistling-thrush emerging like a sweet secret from a dark forest; moments when heaven is here, compensating for the irritations and petty disasters that we create around ourselves each day." 🌿🍃
It's not just fiction, but a mix of fiction and observations. The book is quite useful if one is in a reader’s block and wants to restart reading. It’s quick to read, and also easy on the pocket. It’s like one of those books you get in trains during a journey. For a reader who loves this author’s writing, I think it will be value for money.
