I really enjoyed this little story.

Ling Shuang, a daughter of a nobleman, is about to be married to a complete stranger. She is not happy with this arranged marriage. She already has a lover and they made plans for their future life together.

On her way to her betrothed's house, Ling Shuang forces her male servant, Jie Yi, to put on a female dress and makeup and play a role of a bride. She also gives him a cheap pearl bracelet as a small bribe. They part, Yi to go and get married to the stranger, and Ling Shuang to reunite with her lover.

Tian Yang doesn't want a wife. He remembers his own beautiful aristocratic mother running away to find a better life, far away from the children and the ranch which belonged to their family. This betrayal is so deep, that Tian Yang is determined to undermine any future marriages, arranged or not. When Jie Yi arrives, claiming to be Ling Shuang, Tian Yang take him to a remote warehouse/hut to test his new bride. But Jie Yi, as beautiful and delicate as he is, doesn't mind the hardship; after all, he grew up a servant.

Over a few weeks, Tian Yang finds himself suddenly drawn to the beautiful young lady, who seems to be perfect for him and is not afraid of hard work. One day, with two young people living so close together, things finally get out of hand. Yi's secret is discovered. Petrified, he leaves the little hut.

In the meantime, Ling Shuang shows up at Tian Yang's ranch, claiming little Yi robbed her blind, left her sick on the road and pretended to be her in order to take her place. Her proof? That little pearl bracelet....

Fun begins :)

As far as BL novels go this was pretty decent, with plenty of twists and turns. The ending was a bit disappointing, with numerous relatives complaining 'oh, my god, two men together! No, it's OK you can stay, but oh, my god, maybe you should leave...' Round and round and round it went.

Translation was confusing at times, but I can't hold it against the book or the person who translated it. All I can say is "thank you for you hard work" :)

The Counterfeit Bride was a Chinese BL Harlequin type novel. The setting was similar to historical Western, but this one was in China. The plot was trope-ish, but the story was really enjoyable and pushed all my right buttons.

The romance was actually quite instant, but it worked. There's a little sex, but it's not graphic. The end was HEA, and I loved that the father-in-law accepted the male MC as his son's bride ^^

Counterfeit Bride is a cute weekend read when you want to relax and don't get invested too much in the characters.

The plot: pretty servant boy is pushed by his haughty spoiled mistress to dress up in her womanly garb and meet her future husband pretending he is her, while she runs away like a horny skank with another man. The future husband is none too happy about the marriage either and has big plans to torment his bride. Our poor pretty servant boy gets stuck in the middle.

It's the old tale of straight man meets pretty woman ...



...that ends up being a boy and no other woman would do after sampling the sweet trill of m/m passion.



But wait! there's more: a lot of drama!



And angst! We can't have nice things without the angst, can we?



It's not a memorable read, but it's an adorable one.

เรื่องนี้ดำเนินเรื่องไปค่อนข้างเร็วค่ะ บางอย่างเลยดูไม่ค่อยสมเหตุสมผลสักเท่าไหร่ แต่ก็ถือว่าเป็นเรื่องที่สนุกอยู่นะคะ ถ้าเป็นคนไม่ชอบอ่านแนวดราม่า ขอแนะนำให้อ่านเรื่องนี้เลยค่ะ รับรองว่าอ่านไปต้องอมยิ้มไปแน่ๆ

ที่สำคัญคือปกสวยมากกก ตอนเดินผ่านบูทของ สนพ.นี้ก็ไม่ค่อยได้สนใจสักเท่าไหร่ จนเพื่อนทักมาถามว่า ได้ซื้อเรื่องนี้มาไหม เลยต้องมาเปิดดูอีกที ตอนแรกก็รู้สึกเสียดายที่ไม่ได้ซื้อมาจากงานหนังสือ เลยต้องซื้อทางเว็บเอา จะบอกว่า สนพ.นี้ห่อดีมากๆค่ะ

สรุปสั้นๆว่า ถึงเรื่องจะดำเนินเร็วไปหน่อย แต่ก็เป็นอีกหนึ่งเรื่องที่อยากให้ทุกคนลองอ่านค่ะ

I just want to laugh the whole time Xiao Shi Zi got bullied. The translation isn't that great, my eyes just wanted to skip around loooong boringly descriptive sentences and inevitably missed some short important ones.
The pairing does seem strikingly similar to Legendary Master's Wife, because of the personalities of both MCs.

And truth be told, if you were to replace the MC's gender (that is change it to female), I daresay the plot wouldn't have much change either. Just the argument that old man Yun might slightly change from "You can't really pair with a man and marry him" to "You can't really take a servant as a main wife"

Maybe I had just figured these kind of mainstream DanMei plots, but I'd still give all the books I read a 5 stars unless otherwise explained.

I read a chaotic translation of this novel but I can tell that the original story is very good. There isn't much for me to say about the technical side as I didn't read the Chinese version, but the intrigue is well-thought-out, the development of the storyline steady and relevant, the personality of every character is distinct and solid, the blurb was catchy and original, and the harmony was there from the prologue to the epilogue ... too bad the translation was a DISASTER.

I rate this book 3 stars and recommend it. It's a relatively detailed story although it's only about ten parts. I have spent a good time travelling to Ancient China through this little read :)

อ่านได้เพลินๆ ค่ะ เล่มบางๆ เนื้อหาเบาๆ ไม่มีปมซับซ้อน ตอนจบแฮปปี้ พระเอกเป็นโบ้ท่านหนึ่ง ใครชอบแนวตัวเอกสู้ชีวิต พระเอกโบ้ น่าจะชอบค่ะ however รู้สึกว่าตัวเอกจะติดโทรปผู้หญิงไปหน่อย ตัวเล็กคล้ายผู้หญิงยังไม่อะไรมาก แต่แม้กระทั่งเสียงก็ยังหลอกพระเอกได้นี่รู้สึกว่าเกินจริงไปหน่อยค่ะ
