This book makes me acutely aware of how recent The Cultural Revolution is. Less than 50 years have passed. This means everyone I pass on the street over 50 will have been alive during that time.
I was reading this on the MTR, and I couldn’t help but look up from time to time at my fellow passengers and wonder, what was that old man doing during that time? what was it like for that old lady? what have they experienced, and how are they able to put that down and go on living the rest of their lives?
Very gripping read. Highly recommend.

书还可以。但像巴金那种批判自己则不是。是以受害者而不是加害者的面貌去反省的。武斗的场面真的吓人。青年们有理想，但是革命总是吞噬他的儿女。
