The book is divided into groupings of works (“themes”), so my review will be too. Kind of a jumble and confusing collection for an elementary school textbook. I averaged my ratings to get the overall rating.
Theme 1:
Picture People by Myra Cohn Livingston - 3 ⭐️ Simple poem for kids to read, but the first stanza doesn’t really make sense.
Do You Want to Be My Friend by Eric Carle - 5 ⭐️ Simple story that’s pictures focused. Lets kids come up with their own story.
The Very Nice Place by Unknown Author - 5 ⭐️ Short poem about animal homes.
Potluck by Anne Shelby - 4 ⭐️ I thought this was a fun way to show the alphabet. Removed a star because I thought it was weird that the triplets didn’t have names (really, you can’t come up with three names that start with T?) and all of the kids had traditionally English names. The kids are clearly diverse, with various skin tones, and some even wore wearing culturally traditional clothing. For example, Edmund, who looks Latino, brings enchiladas. Why isn’t he named Esteban or Emilio? Heck, he could have even been Edmundo. It was odd to me that they took the time to make it diverse, but didn’t fully commit.
Invitation by Myra Cohn Livingston - 5 ⭐️ Short poem about what is included on a party invitation.
King Midas and His Gold by Patricia and Frank McKissack - 3 ⭐️ Much nicer than the original story, but it’s still kind of meh. Nice message about not being materialistic.
My Favorite Word by Lucia and James L Hymes Jr - 4 ⭐️ It is nice when you get told yes, but it seems like they’re always telling the kid yes?

Theme 2:
Better Move on Frog by Ron Maris - 5 ⭐️ Cute picture book that shows some different animal habitats.
Notice by David McCord - 3 ⭐️ What the hell did I even just read? It doesn’t make any sense.
Who Is Tapping at My Window? by A. G. Deming - 4 ⭐️ Very repetitive, but the pictures are cute, and it’s more geared for kids anyways.
What Shall We Do When We All Go Out? - 5 ⭐️ Cute traditional children’s song.
The World Is Big, The World Is Small by Ella Jenkins - 4 ⭐️ I really like this picture book, but the wording for a couple of the ways you can travel was a bit odd. The ending was also a bit abrupt and felt random, like there wasn’t a lead-in.
