Writer Melissa Leddy isn’t a morning person. Maybe you aren’t either. Or maybe you are, but you could use another boost of energy as you sip your favorite blend from the “World's Best Mom” mug your preschooler hand-painted last week.
This is the purpose of “Grace Start Your Day on a Positive Note.” “Grace Notes” brings together some of Leddy’s most popular recent blog posts, each with a message of positive energy.
These mini essays prompt you to reflect on questions such as, “How do pictures help tell our family stories?” Then Leddy might acknowledge in her characteristically heartfelt writing, “Sometimes our best pictures are the ones we can’t touch.”
Her creative nonfiction stories from her “everyday” resonate with readers because of their overarching theme of grace—of appreciating the good things in life, and finding the silver linings in the not-so-good ones.
This little book is organized into four (1) Life, (2) Family, (3) Motherhood and (4) Friendship. You can read through the pages here in whichever way makes the most sense for you, though. Maybe you’ll be going about your morning routine and find yourself in need of some encouragement related to “Motherhood”—so simply skip to that part, and turn to “Family” another time.
“There are ebbs and flows in motherhood, work, and life,” Leddy writes in the essay “5 Kinds of Moms I’ve Been.” “Your journey doesn’t necessarily get better and better with each passing season. But hopefully, you become wiser and more content. You get a feel for what makes the most sense for each particular time of your life.”
In another essay, “I Wish You’d Told How Storytelling Heals,” Leddy encourages you to consider, “Have you ever had a bad day, and the moment you started telling someone about it, you began to feel better? For the bigger trials in life too, from the loss of someone you loved (or someone you never had the chance to) to postpartum depression, my experience has taught me that telling your story comforts your heart in a way that keeping it contained can’t.”
The stories you read here will comfort you. They’ll encourage you. Most of all, they’ll give you the momentum you need to start your day with a hearty, hope-filled, “Yes!”

I love this book! My children are adults now but Melissa's stories brought back many memories of what it is like to be a working mom. Thank you for sharing this part of your life's journey with your readers.
