Jean Hays #2

Mystery in the Woods

Rate this book
Jean has a volunteer job at the library, a good friend in Karen Carver, and spends her free time shopping for knickknacks at thrift stores around town. She even has a grudging respect for Police Chief Nick White, though they’re not what you’d call friendly. When a new dead body pops up, Jean is intrigued. The victim has been missing for more than a decade, and there seems to be an interesting story there that Jean and Karen just cannot resist. Uncovering secrets both old and new, Jean finds herself in a race against time to figure out who the mastermind is behind some dark and sinister things going on in the town. It’s a race she can’t afford to lose, but will she be able to figure out the answer before she goes one step too far?

A Fast paced Mystery you just can't put down!

While best friends Jean and Karen are walking in the woods they stumble upon a body stuffed in a duffle bag when they accidently grabbed at it and it rolled down the hill. So begins the adventure! Who killed Anson Prentis? What is happening in their small Arizona town of Grayson? The potential suspects start to add up and Jean and Karen can't let Chief White handle it without their curiosity kicking in! Are they getting too close to the truth? So many suspects but how do they tie together. Could it all be tied into a drug problem in town? Could Jean and Karen get into trouble with their snooping? And then there are the three students Karen and Jean take under their wing, Summer, Rita and Austin and how do they tie into all of this? And will they appear in the next book of the series with Karen and Jean? Wow, so much to ponder and a fantastic fast paced read you just can't put down! I received a free copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily offering my own honest opinion about the book.

This is a likeable cosy mystery with a suitably knotty plot. I thought that the characters were well defined, especially those of Jean and Karen, the two main characters.
The only reason I have reduced my assessment from 5 stars to 4 is, without spoiling the plot too much, that I thought that having 2 sets of villains in such a small town was a bit far-fetched, as was the rather extreme attempts to eliminate Jean and Karen.
However it still made an enjoyable and satisfying read, with a great fast pace to the storyline.
