Frederick Joseph Alsop, III Ph.D. is an ornithologist and a professor of biological sciences at East Tennessee State University. He received his doctorate in zoology from the University of Tennessee, and specializes in the ecology, distribution, life history, and taxonomy of birds. An avid field biologist and birder, he has identified more than 3,200 species of birds worldwide.
This book is full of good old-fashioned information about birds and bird-watching in Tennessee. There are great illustrations as well as photographs to show various bird types and identifying characteristics. My one complaint is that there weren't even more birds described; for example, the red-tailed hawk is mentioned throughout the book but was not given its own identification page.
