The Circlet Half Drawn

Rate this book
In a futuristic society split into upper class “Elites” and lower class “Dregs,” Ambry Croft’s blue hair and reckless nature have never quite fit the mold of her high-profile family. Ambry’s father is a powerful and respected Timekeeper—one of twenty-four individuals entrusted with the research and distribution of the world’s supply of time capsules. If activated, a single capsule has the power to freeze time. But when Ambry saves a thief named Rift—a mysterious and brilliant Rebel leader bent on bringing down the Global Government—she’s unwittingly thrown into the tumultuous world of an underground Resistance that seeks to topple all her family stands for. Now Ambry must choose between the life she’s known and an uncertain future fighting alongside Rift and the rest of the Resistance. But can she trust someone who won’t reveal his own past? "The Circlet Half Drawn" is packed with teleportation, time-technology, and the relational struggles of a young woman discovering where she truly belongs.

I grew out of my dystopian phase many years ago and as I write my 5 star review, I will note that it took me a little while to fall into the rhythm of this story and become invested. But by the last page, I knew this story had stolen my heart.

I love Ambry, I understand her struggles with her father and I’m extremely jealous of her blue hair. The world is similar enough to what we currently live in, that I never felt lost - and I lived Ambry’s struggle with her as her world was turned upside down and she learned everything she’d ever known was a lie.

Did I mention there is also time travel, seriously cute and upstanding guys, teleportation and nifty tattoos?

Jessie, seriously… I am going to need you to write the sequel. Duologies are so in right now, and I will be first (maybe second if the friend who loaned me her copy has anything to say about it) to pre-order the next one.

Great beginning to a series by a new author! Biggs weaves a story that draws you in right at the beginning and doesn't let you go. Hope the 2nd in the series is on it's way!! Well done!

I am so happy to be among the first to read this book. This is a really good YA novel that has some serious potential to get really popular once it gets out there and more people read it. The world that Jessie Biggs creates has a few very unique aspects to it, and the pace of the story keeps the reader from ever getting bored. The banter between main characters had me actually chuckling aloud at points, and I love how strong-willed Ambry remains throughout the book. I am give this a 4/5 review because there were a couple of typos that I saw, and there were a few points where the plot was a tad thin (which is honestly to be expected of most YA novels). All in all though, this book is an amazing beginning to what I hope will be a long career as a writer. I really hope to see more of this story in the future!

It feels odd to rate my own book, but I'm rather attached to the story (shocker!) so I'm giving it all the stars ;)
