Christmas can be dangerous. Elizabeth Darcy is kidnapped and Darcy must save her. Eight years after their happily ever after, Darcy knows that he is a most fortunate man. He has everything: a wife he adores, children, and a successful estate – until a villain from his past threatens it all. Darcy must use all his cunning to rescue Elizabeth, and Elizabeth must use all her courage to survive.
Rescuing Mrs. Darcy is a Pride and Prejudice Variation Novella based on Jane Austen's most romantic couple. This heartwarming story has Christian themes.
I've been half in love with Mr. Darcy since I was twelve, although I'll admit, the first time I read Pride and Prejudice, I was totally taken in by Wickham. I was stunned when Mr. Darcy proposed (I guess I was reading too quickly to catch all the hints), and even more stunned when Wickham turned out to be a jerk. But by the end of the book I was completely smitten by Darcy. I am still smitten.
The best part about writing Jane Austen Variations is that I can relive those moments of discovery and watch Elizabeth fall in love with Darcy one more time.
All my books and short stories are standalone stories, each with a slightly different Darcy and Elizabeth.
Christmas for Elizabeth, kidnapped and held for ransom
Well this particular Christmas turned out to be the worst for Elizabeth Darcy. It will also be one she will not forget for a while. Heavy with child, she had been kidnapped, tied up and was being held for ransom. The reasons will shock some JAFF fans, but not others. The mastermind behind the abduction will also surprise some, but not others. However, within the ranks of the zeros, there rose a hero.
The drama unfolded quickly; as most calls for ransom do. The culprits wanted a hasty get-a-way. All they wanted was to secure their loot and leave.
We spend a lot of time in the heads of our main characters. From Elizabeth, we have her trying to understand why? And then her shock when she realized she knew her abductor, he worked for them.
We then have the POV of Darcy as he conducts the search for his wife. We see the extreme measures he goes through in order to retrieve her and his haste as he gathers the money and jewels for the exchange.
There is a religious element as our characters pray for each other and their children. This is consistent with the time period and the religious beliefs of both Darcy and Elizabeth. This was well done and can be read over if the reader is so inclined.
The hero… I cannot say enough about this character. I liked how it was handled and I felt the final decision was a good one. The zeros got what they deserved. I was not surprised.
This story was very different with the changes in the family dynamics of the Bennet family. There were many surprises from that quarter. There were a lot of unanswered questions regarding Lydia that gave me pause. It felt like there were hints toward something, but didn’t quite go there. Since this was a novella it was a quick read.
Set eight years into the Darcys’ marriage, this novella has a very pregnant Elizabeth heading out to go shopping against Darcy’s advice, and due to some serious scheming, she is kidnapped and held for ransom. Being a novella, it was quickly resolved, but I enjoyed how it played out and that our dear couple managed to enjoy some Christmas spirit despite nothing going according to plan.
It's definitely a tense time just before Christmas when the very pregnant Elizabeth Darcy heads off for some last-minute Christmas shopping but is kidnapped on the way. The story skips back and forth. It follows her experiences with her kidnappers, some of whom are more cutthroat than others. We also read of Darcy's desperation as he gathers the money and jewelry demanded in the ransom note and waits for reports from those investigating the crime while trying to stay calm for the sake of his children.
Since it's a P&P variation, I found I couldn't get too torn up about the critical situation, even when it gets even more intense, knowing that a HEA had to be in the cards. Still, it's a well-written novella, at just the right length and hitting the right notes for the season.
Rescuing Mrs. Darcy: A Pride and Prejudice Variation
Three rogues: one mastermind, two kidnappers. The mastermind: angry, our for revenge, crooked cheat. One kidnapper convinced he's a half brother by the mastermind; the second kidnapper kind and helpful to the victim. By now one would think the mastermind would realize that his plans when made in anger never play out like he imagines especially when he cheats his accomplices. But this foolish man never has learned to not fool with Fitzwilliam Darcy Master of Pemberley in Derbyshire. Sometimes the best laid plans often go astray especially when one is foolish. But when you're greedy, you just might end up dead. For this mastermind it was no great loss. Kidnapping Elizabeth Darcy just ticked off the Master - the one with the real mind.
So I bought this book because I love Darcy written as the Hero. I love drama injected into my stories and of course the fact that they were already together is key. The characters are charming and loving together but I can't go without expressing my disappointment with the length of this book. I really feel authors need more to really impress me. It is because of Austen that sells this book so when an author wants to add to their tale 65 pages is just a half ended attempt to make money. It doesn't take much creativity IMO to conjure up a chapter. Impress me with a complete story. The author can write it's just I want more from her in the future this was an hour and a half distraction.
